ということで、ここに酒・菓子・飯などを商う家が七、八軒ある。市川道の右の方の小道に入ると西光寺という天台宗の寺があり、ここに葛西三郎清重の墓があるという。帰りに尋ねようと思い、行きは左に見やって通り過ぎた。なお進んで
世継【現在の四つ木】ここに茶店が二軒あり、また酒や飯を売る店もあって二軒茶屋と呼び名がついている。しばしここで休憩した。この場所より用水に船を浮かべて二十八丁ほどの間を綱で引いて行く。これを世継の引舟という。広く人の知れた所であるが、ここに来たのは今日が初めてなので、とても珍しく思われた。
茶店の前より船に乗る。乗合は四人で、皆水戸の方に行く旅人である。
去る十三日より涼しさを越えて冷たいことが甚だしく、昨日祇園祭に参拝した時には綿入りの着物や袷物などを重ね着したが、それでも寒さに堪えられないほどであった。今日も袷の着物を一枚重ねて着ている。しかし東風が冷やかに吹いて、船の中で暑さを感じることはない。この月の七日に土用に入ってからというもの、すべて暑いということがない。続いて雨も降らず、空は晴れて雲もないのに、このように涼しいのはいかがなものかと不思議に思うほどである。

Yotsugi【present-day Yotsugi】Here there are two teahouses, and also shops selling sake and rice, which are called "Niken Chaya" (Two-House Tea Shops). I rested here for a while. From this place, boats are floated on the waterway and pulled by rope for about 28 chō. This is called the Yotsugi hikifune (tow boat). Though it is a place well-known to many people, this was my first time coming here, so it seemed quite remarkable.
I boarded the boat from in front of the teahouse. There were four passengers in total, all travelers heading toward Mito.
From the 13th of last month, it has been extremely cold, far beyond merely cool. Yesterday when I went to the Gion Festival, I layered padded kimono and lined garments, but even so I could barely endure the cold. Today too I am wearing an additional lined kimono. However, the east wind blows coolly, and I do not feel any heat inside the boat. Since entering the doyō period on the 7th of this month, there has been no heat at all. Furthermore, no rain has fallen, the sky is clear without clouds, yet it is so cool that I wonder strangely what could be the cause.
At the place where the tow boat journey ends, there are also two teahouses, which are also called "Niken Chaya."
