And there were others — a household of five or seven, master and servants, where a single manservant alone managed to escape, yet with no means to rescue his master, he left him behind in the flames to perish, and returned home to his province hollow-eyed and crestfallen, unable to face anyone. A young woman, still in her sleeping robes, was fortunate enough to have escaped and gotten out, but she did not know what had become of her parents or her husband, nor of any of their savings, and as news of the disaster reached her home province, one can only imagine the anxiety she endured until a person came to meet her.
