　雖天性自然の生得をもれす形あるものは心あり心
　あれは智あり愚ありと【然ありと】雖能不能は格別のものにして
　鴻は形の大ひ成故に小なる蟻を防くこと不叶雀は形の
　小なる故に蛇の難を防こと不成して鴻を頼とし能を以
　不能を助けあふか？感事也そ？も？如此有度ものなから僕
　七そじに至れ共我おもふ所を是（セ）とし無我ならさるは
　恥かしきの大ひなる者也《割書：鴻にはなく声の無ものにて此角を多く音｜高く古人是をなくと云又豆を煮共いふ》

天性自然の生得とはいえ、形あるものは心があり、心があれば智もあり愚もある。しかし能不能は格別のもので、鷺は形が大きいために小さな蟻を防ぐことができず、雀は形が小さいために蛇の難を防ぐことができないので鷺を頼りとし、能力をもって不能を助け合うのは感心なことである。このようなことがあるものの、私は七十歳に至っても、自分の思う所を是とし、無我でないのは恥ずかしいことの大なるものである。《割書：鷺には鳴き声がなく、この角を多く音高く、古人これを鳴くといい、また豆を煮るともいう》

上千葉村

今年まで五百有余年。本尊は春日といい、仏師の作である。薬師如来。寺中に葛西六郎重氏という人の石塔がある。この外に古い石塔があるが、いずれも文字は消え失せてない。葛西三郎清重の氏族であろう。昔時は伽藍の地で寺領も数多く、隣村である普賢寺村なども、この寺の食地であったということである。

Although all things with form naturally possess innate nature, those with form have hearts, and where there are hearts, there is both wisdom and foolishness. However, ability and inability are matters of particular circumstance: herons, being large in form, cannot ward off small ants; sparrows, being small in form, cannot defend against the threat of snakes and so rely on herons. That they help each other's shortcomings with their abilities is truly admirable. While such things exist, even though I have reached seventy years of age, the fact that I still consider my own thoughts to be correct and am not without ego is a matter of great shame. 《Marginal note: Herons have no crying voice, but make many sounds with high pitch from their throat. The ancients called this "crying" and also "boiling beans"》

Kami-Chiba Village
Mount Nissho, Fugen Temple, Shingon sect, founded by Dharma Master Hōkū during the Kōan era

Until this year, over five hundred years have passed. The principal Buddha image is called Kasuga and is the work of a Buddhist sculptor—Yakushi Nyorai (Medicine Buddha). Within the temple grounds stands a stone pagoda of a person called Kasai Rokurō Shigeuji. Besides this, there are other old stone pagodas, but all their inscriptions have worn away and disappeared. He was probably of the Kasai Saburō Kiyoshige clan. In ancient times this was temple grounds with extensive temple holdings, and neighboring villages such as Fugen Temple Village were said to be part of this temple's sustaining lands.

Tateishi Village
In this village there is a remarkable stone called Tateishi (Standing Stone). Because of this, in ancient times the nearby four or five villages used this as their collective village name, calling it Tateishi Village. Since the division into separate villages, now...
