　居之由時代は知れ共名主の先祖何某か数百年以前
　建立せし堂にて五百年も年経し旧地にして紫式部
　の秘蔵せし自然金にて鋳像せし観世音といふ此夜は
　其名主の家に止宿せしに主のいひ伝ひも右のことくい
　前は富饒に暮せしとのことながら今はさにも見へず刀
　箱抔の大ひなる古物も見へ鎗かけに幾百年持伝へし
　ことにや至て古く見へし弓矢ある故に乞て一覧せしに図の
　こときの弓矢なり《割書：僕｜　》古器を好み諸州におゐて上世の武
　器も見しにいまたかゝる矢を見す素かり射法を知ら

　されは何の為に用ひし矢といふをしらず蟇目の射
　法に用ゆる矢にてもあらんか何にしても珍敷といふへし

　按に長き弓製し初しは遠からぬ事也尊氏公の時代

現代語訳

居住の由来について、時代は知れないが、名主の先祖の何某かが数百年以前に建立した堂で、五百年も年を経た旧跡であり、紫式部が秘蔵していた自然金で鋳造した観世音菩薩像だという。この夜はその名主の家に宿泊したが、主人の言い伝えも右の通りで、以前は裕福に暮らしていたということだが、今はそのようには見えない。刀箱などの大きな古い品物も見え、槍掛けに何百年も持ち伝えてきたのか、非常に古く見える弓矢があったので、頼んで一覧させてもらうと、図のような弓矢であった。

私は古い器物を好み、諸国において上代の武器も見たが、まだこのような矢は見たことがない。素懸り射法を知らないので、何のために用いた矢なのかわからない。蟇目の射法に用いる矢なのかもしれないが、何にしても珍しいと言うべきである。

弓の長さ四尺八寸五分。籐を糸のようにして巻き、その上から漆で止めた物である。

考察するに、長い弓を製作し始めたのは、それほど遠くない時代のことで、尊氏公の時代

Regarding the origin of this residence, though the period is unknown, it is a hall built several hundred years ago by some ancestor of the village headman, an ancient site that has existed for five hundred years, and is said to house a Kannon statue cast from natural gold that Murasaki Shikibu treasured. I stayed overnight at this headman's house, and the master's oral tradition was as described above - they had lived wealthy lives in the past, though this is not apparent now. Large antique items such as sword boxes were visible, and there was a bow and arrows on a spear rack that appeared extremely old, perhaps passed down for hundreds of years. When I asked to examine them, they were bow and arrows as shown in the diagram.

I am fond of ancient artifacts and have seen weapons from ancient times in various provinces, but I have never seen arrows like these. Since I do not know the sukagari shooting technique, I do not know what purpose these arrows served. They might be arrows used in hikinome archery, but in any case, they should be called rare.
