現在の形のように地面が一定したのは享保初年より経済に詳しい井沢何某が地理を考え、古利根川の水を中川へ落とし、古川を酒井とし、その水を以て西葛西の用水とした。船の通行もあれこれ便利になるように共に計ったものである。才ある人と思われる。
