There must be some established reason for this. There is one family of rope-markers. The rope-marker from three generations ago was from Matsusaka in Ise Province, summoned into service by Lord Aritoku-in, and was granted many rice fields and dry fields, which they preserve and transmit to this day. In this world, there are indeed families that have been blessed with such fortune.
In the garden of a farmer named Kyuzaemon, there is a mortar on which Lord Aritoku-in is said to have sat. It is a large zelkova wood mortar with a rain cover, enshrined as a deity as shown in the illustration. This accords with the principle of "move it not, cut it not," and though they are common people, they do not forget the nation's benevolence. They hang sacred ropes and revere it as a deity, carefully preserving it—truly admirable conduct. There are many in this world who, though they may appear sophisticated, do not recognize the nation's benevolence. Compared to such people, these folk are truly praiseworthy.
