　溝に水の深さ弐尺にて昼夜無滞水を引時は三千石四千
　石の田所も養ふものなれは新田所残ず田場にならすとも
　三つにして壱つハ安〳〵と田と可成ことに思ひし事也尤其所の風俗
　も知らす田場の水を持溜雑き地所にや《割書：僕｜　》不案内の事なれは

　新田より海面七八丁は汐の干潟には附洲の見ゆる形多く幾

現代語訳

溝に水の深さ二尺で昼夜滞りなく水を引く時は、三千石四千石の田も養うことができるのだから、新田をすべて田にしなくても、三分の一だけでも安心して田にすることができると思った。もっとも、その土地の風俗も知らず、田の水を溜める適切な地所かどうか（注記：私は）不案内なことなので、信用すべきではないが、思うところを包み隠さず図に示したのである。

新田から海面まで七、八町は潮の干潟で、付け洲が見える形が多く、幾年もしないうちに新田に付け加わるであろう。葦原は新田となるべき年貢の安い所なので、上げ潮にして塩浜にしても上等な土地となる海浜である。

上潮の時は利根川の水が逆流して横川へ差し入り、中川筋へ押し上がることである。

英語訳

When water is drawn continuously day and night through a ditch with a water depth of two feet, it could support rice fields worth three or four thousand koku. Therefore, even without converting all the newly reclaimed land to rice fields, at least one-third could safely be made into rice fields, I thought. However, since I am unfamiliar with the local customs and do not know whether this is suitable land for retaining irrigation water, this should not be taken as reliable, though I have shown my thoughts without reservation in the diagram.

From the newly reclaimed land to the sea surface, about seven to eight chō consists of tidal flats, with many formations of attached sandbanks visible. Within a few years, these will likely be added to the newly reclaimed land. The reed beds are places with low tribute taxes that should become newly reclaimed fields, so even if made into salt fields during high tide, this coastal area would become excellent land.
