【高尾にて空海最澄へ灌頂さづけ給ふ事】
しばらく此地に。おこなひすまして。その
のち。また山しろの国。たかを山へのぼりた
まひける。さて弘仁（こうにん）三年十一月十五日。神護（じんご）寺（じ）
におひて。はじめて。金剛（こんかう）界（かい）のくはん
ぢやうだんをひらひて。道俗（だうぞく）の衆（しゆ）にさづ
けたまひける。伝教（でんげう）大師（だいし）受者（しゆしや）の上 首（しゆ）として。
これをうけたまふ。おなじき十二月十中日。たい
ざうかひのくわんぢやうをおこなひたまふ。
伝教（でんげう）またおなじくこれをうけたまふ。受者（じゆしや）
総（そう）じて。一百十五人なりしとかや。両部（りやうぶ）定恵（ぢやうゑ）
の。くわんぢやう此ときにはじめてつたはり

【高尾にて空海が最澄へ灌頂を授け給うこと】
しばらくこの地で修行を終えられた後、また山城の国（現在の京都府）の高雄山へお登りになりました。そして弘仁三年（八一二年）十一月十五日、神護寺において、はじめて金剛界の灌頂壇を開かれて、僧俗の衆に授けられました。伝教大師（最澄）は受者の筆頭として、これをお受けになりました。同じく十二月十中日（中旬のある日）には、胎蔵界の灌頂を執り行われました。伝教大師もまた同じくこれをお受けになりました。受者は総じて百十五人であったと伝えられています。両部（金剛界・胎蔵界）定恵の灌頂は、この時に初めて日本に伝わったのです。

**[The Matter of Kūkai Conferring the Initiation upon Saichō at Takao]**
After completing his practices in that place for a time, the Venerable One ascended Mount Takao (*Takao-san*) in the Province of Yamashiro (present-day Kyoto Prefecture). On the fifteenth day of the eleventh month of Kōnin 3 (812 CE), at Jingoji Temple, he opened for the first time a *Kongōkai* (Diamond Realm) initiation platform (*kanjō-dan*) and conferred the initiation upon an assembly of monks and laypeople. The Great Teacher Dengyō (*Dengyō Daishi*, i.e., Saichō) received it as the foremost among the initiates. On a day in the middle of the twelfth month of that same year, the *Taizōkai* (Womb Realm) initiation was performed. Dengyō likewise received this initiation. The total number of initiates was, it is said, one hundred and fifteen persons. The initiations of both realms (*ryōbu*) — the *Kongōkai* and the *Taizōkai* — along with their profound wisdom (*jō-e*), were transmitted to Japan for the very first time at this occasion.
