かの人。いとこゝろよげなるありさまにて。わ
れはこれ八 幡（まん）なり。われと和尚（くはしやう）とは。かげと
かたちとのことくなり。わがあとをたるゝ所には。
和尚かならずはなれたまふべからず。又和尚のお
はしまさむ所には。われかならずあとをたる
べしと。かたく御やくそくありて。ともに仏法（ぶつほう）を
まもり。しゆじやうをさいどしたまはんとの御
ちかひありしとかや。そも〳〵八 幡（まん）大 菩薩（ぼさつ）は
真言（しんごん）上 乗（せう）の高祖（かうそ）毘盧遮那（びろしやな）覚王（かくわう）の応迹（をうしやく）

現代語訳
その人は、たいそう心地よさそうな様子で、「われはこれ八幡なり。われと和尚とは、影と形のごとくである。我が後に従う所には、和尚は必ず離れてはならない。また、和尚がいらっしゃる所には、われも必ず後に従おう」と、固くご約束があって、ともに仏法を守り、衆生を済度しようとのお誓いがあったということである。そもそも八幡大菩薩は、真言上乗の高祖・毘盧遮那覚王の応迹である。

英語訳
The person, with a most serene and pleasant demeanor, said: "I am Hachiman. You, the Venerable Monk, and I are as shadow and form—inseparable. Wherever I follow, you must never part from me; and wherever you dwell, I shall surely follow in your wake." With this solemn vow firmly made, it is said that they pledged together to protect the Dharma and to lead all sentient beings to salvation. Now, Hachiman Daibosatsu is the manifested trace-form (*ōjaku*) of Vairocana, the King of Enlightenment and Supreme Patriarch of the Shingon highest teaching.
