冬嗣（ふゆつく）命のことく。南円堂をこんりうし給ふ
日ならすしていできしかば。すなはち大師を請（しやう）
し奉りて御（み）堂（だう）供養（くやう）ありしに。大師 鎮壇（ちんだん）
まし〳〵ければ。かたじけなくも春日（かすか）大明神は
おきなと。あらはれ出させ給ひて。いまぞさかへ
む北のふぢなみどよみ給ひけるとかや
かゝりしゆへにや。閑院（かんゐん）の大臣の御子 忠仁（ちうじん）公（こう）は皇（くわう）

冬嗣は命のとおりに南円堂を建立なさった。日も経たぬうちに完成したので、すなわち大師をお招き申し上げて御堂の供養が行われた。大師が鎮壇をなさったところ、かたじけなくも春日大明神が翁の姿としてお現れになり、「今こそ栄えるであろう、北の藤波よ」と詠み上げられたとのことである。
このようなことがあったためであろうか、閑院の大臣の御子・忠仁公は、皇帝の祖・皇后の御父として摂政になられた。我が朝の摂政はこの時より始まったのである。そして一門の流れは広がり、皆が百王の輔佐となられた。今の世に至るまで、摂政・関白と申し伝えることは――

Fuyutsugu, following the instructions as given, had the Nan'en-dō built. It was completed in no time at all, whereupon the Great Master was duly invited to perform the dedication ceremony of the hall. As the Great Master performed the *chindan* ritual, the august Kasuga Daimyōjin graciously appeared in the form of an elderly man, and is said to have chanted: "Now shall you flourish, O wisteria waves of the north!"
Perhaps it was owing to such events that Fuyutsugu's son, Lord Chūjin, became Regent, as the grandfather of the sovereign and father of the Empress. The office of Regent in our court began from this very time. The stream of the clan spread wide, and all became pillars of support to a hundred sovereigns.
