ず。まことに春日（かすが）の神（しん）恩（おん）あつうして。冬嗣（ふゆつぐ）の栄（えい）
花（ぐは）をひらき給へる也。たゞ是大 師（し）の御 方便（はうべん）の
力なるべし。其後 後（ご）白河（しらかはの）院（ゐん）の御宇に。かの御堂の
かたはらに塔（たふ）をたてらるべしとて。地をひかれける
に。金銅（こんとう）の箱（ばこ）をほり出したることあり。其 宗（しう）の長

現代語訳
（摂政・関白の職は）ひとりこの藤氏にとどまって、いまだこの家の外に移ったことがない。まことに春日の神恩は厚く、冬嗣の栄花を開かせてくださったのである。これはひとえに大師の御方便の力によるものであろう。
その後、後白河院の御代に、かの御堂のかたわらに塔を建てようとして地面を掘り起こしたところ、金銅の箱を掘り出したことがあった。その宗の長者・頼観僧都以下、諸家のしかるべき人々に勅問があったが、誰一人としてその子細を知る者がいなかった。そのなかで、遍知院の僧都・義範ただ一人が、かの箱の子細について相承の秘決を記して奏聞されたところ、少しも違うことがなかった。これは希代の高名なことであったとのことである。

(The offices of Regent and Chancellor) have remained solely within this Fujiwara clan, and have not yet passed to any other house. Truly, the divine grace of Kasuga has been profound, opening the blossoming prosperity of Fuyutsugu. This must surely be owing to the power of the Great Master's skillful means.
Thereafter, during the reign of Retired Emperor Go-Shirakawa, when the ground beside that hall was being excavated with the intention of erecting a pagoda, a box of gilt bronze was unearthed. The head of the sect, the Sōzu Raikan, and other suitable persons of various houses were questioned by imperial decree, but there was no one who knew the particulars of the matter. Among them, one man alone—the Sōzu Gihan of Henchi-in—recorded the secret transmission concerning the details of that box and presented it to the throne, and it was found to accord without the slightest discrepancy. This was said to have been an extraordinarily celebrated achievement.
