【龍泉寺の事】
かゝる時には異香山にみちて奇光（きくはう）時にてらす
と也。かくて河内の国 竜泉（りうせん）寺（じ）は。本願（ほんぐはん）大臣 伽藍（がらん）を
立んとし給ふに。此地の勝景（せうけい）心にあひかなへりと
いへども往古（わうご）よりつたはりたる大なる池（いけ）有て。悪竜（あくりう）
中にすみ。人民（にんみん）常に害をうけ村（そん）閭（りよ）みな悲しみを
含（ふくめ）り。しかれは大臣 環帯（くはんたい）を着（ちやく）し剣笏（けんしやく）をたゝしうして
目しはらくもましろかず池（いけ）の底（そこ）をみる事七日七夜に
及（をよべ）り。其時 竜王（りうわう）人の形（かたち）と現じていへるは。大臣 名利（みやうり）の
誓願（せいくはん）をさしはさんには。我なんぞをのゝかん。いかでか仏
法の威験（いけん）にしたがはざるへきやと。則（すなはち）本の形（かたち）を顕（あら）は
し。震動（しんとう）雷電（らいでん）天地をひゞかしとびさりけり

【龍泉寺のこと】
このような時には、異香（いこう）が山に満ち、奇妙な光が時に辺りを照らすという。
さて、河内の国の龍泉寺については、本願の大臣が伽藍を建立しようとされたとき、この地の優れた景観が心にかなったといえども、遥か昔より伝わる大きな池があって、悪しき龍がその中に棲み、人々は常に害を受け、村里の者たちはみな悲しみを抱えていた。
そこで大臣は、礼服（環帯）を着し、剣と笏（しゃく）をきちんと整えて、しばらくも目をそらすことなく池の底を見つめること、七日七夜に及んだ。
その時、龍王が人の姿で現れて言うには、「大臣が名利（めいり）を超えた誓願をお立てになるのであれば、我はどうして恐れようか。どうして仏法の威験（いけん）に従わないことがあろうか」と。そして直ちに本来の姿を現し、震動と雷電が天地を響かせながら飛び去っていった。

【On Ryūsenji Temple】
At such times, it is said that an ethereal fragrance fills the mountain and a wondrous light occasionally illuminates the surroundings.
Now, regarding Ryūsenji Temple in Kawachi Province: when the Minister who was the principal vow-maker (*hongan*) intended to construct a temple complex there, he found the scenic beauty of the location very much to his liking. However, there was a great pond that had been there since ancient times, in which an evil dragon dwelled, and the people constantly suffered harm from it, leaving all the villagers filled with grief.
Therefore, the Minister, dressed formally in his ceremonial robes (*kantai*) and with his sword and *shaku* (ceremonial baton) properly in hand, gazed fixedly into the depths of the pond without averting his eyes even for a moment — and this continued for seven days and seven nights.
At that time, the Dragon King appeared in human form and declared: "If the Minister's vow transcends personal fame and gain, why should I be afraid? How could I refuse to submit to the divine power of the Buddha-Dharma?" Thereupon, the Dragon King revealed his true form, and with thunderous trembling and lightning that shook heaven and earth, he flew away.
