まひけるは。かた〳〵の目にはおがまれさせ
たまはずや。これなる土（ど）仏（ぶつ）をいとなむ児（ちご）
は権化（ごんけ）の人にや。四天王（てんわう）あまくだりたまひ。
御うしろより蓋（がい）をさしかけ。鉾（ほこ）をたづさへ
しゆごし給ふとて。又 礼（らい）してとをりたまへは。み
な人いよ〳〵たうとひけり

現代語訳
答えて言うには「一般の目には見えないのでしょうか。この土仏を作っておられるお子様は権化（神仏の化身）の方でしょう。四天王が天から降りてこられ、お後ろから傘蓋をさしかけ、鉾を携えてお守りしておられます」と言って、再び礼拝して通り過ぎられた。人々はいよいよ尊く思った。

He replied: "Can ordinary eyes not see? This child who is making clay Buddhas must be an incarnation of a divine being. The Four Heavenly Kings have descended from heaven and are protecting him from behind, holding up a ceremonial canopy and carrying spears." Saying this, he bowed again and passed by. All the people found this even more venerable.
