【加持霊水の事】
さておぐるすと云所に。塵（ちり）をいてたる境（けう）地あり
ければ。みづから十一 面（めん）観音（くはんをん）の像（ざう）をつくり給て
安置（あんち）し。爰（こゝ）にも精舎（しやうじや）をかまへて。一 箇（こ）刹（せつ）となし給ふ
此所の地かはきて聊（いさゝか）も水なくて。所の民（たみ）百姓（しやう）等も
愁（うれへ）けれは。空海此寺を建立（こんりう）し給ふ時。三 鈷（こ）を以（もつ）て
巌石（がんせき）を加持（かぢ）し給ひけるに。忽（たちまち）に。霊水（れいすい）ながれ涌（わき）て
さらにかはく事なし。人〳〵よろこび。其ながれを
汲（くみ）て田畠（でんばく）をつくりけるに。うるをひつねの
水にまさりしかば所もはんじやうし。寺院（じゐん）
仏閣（ぶつかく）さかへける其寺を。三 鈷（こ）寺（じ）と名づけ給ひけ

さて、おぐるすという所に、塵を離れた優れた境地があったので、空海は自ら十一面観音の像を作られて安置し、ここにも精舎を構えて一つの寺刹となされた。この所の土地は乾いていて、わずかも水がなく、その土地の民や百姓たちも悩み嘆いていたので、空海がこの寺を建立される時、三鈷をもって巌石を加持されると、たちまちに霊水が流れ湧き出て、それ以来まったく涸れることがない。人々は喜び、その流れを汲んで田畠を作ったところ、潤いが普通の水よりも勝っていたので、所も繁盛し、寺院・仏閣も栄えた。その寺を三鈷寺と名づけられたのである。

[On the Matter of the Empowered Sacred Water]
Now, in a place called Ogurusu, there was a site of outstanding, unworldly character. Kūkai himself carved an image of the Eleven-Faced Kannon and enshrined it there, and at this location too he established a temple precinct, making it a proper religious establishment. The land of this place was parched and had not even a drop of water, and the local people and farmers were greatly distressed by this. When Kūkai founded this temple, he performed ritual empowerment (kaji) upon a great rock using his three-pronged vajra (sankō). Immediately, sacred water began to flow and spring forth, and it has never run dry since. The people rejoiced, and drawing from this flow they cultivated their fields and paddies. As the water proved more nourishing than ordinary water, the place prospered greatly and its temples and Buddhist halls flourished. This temple was thereafter named Sankō-ji (Temple of the Three-Pronged Vajra).
