【剱の御山の事】
それよりかの山を。我拝師（かはいし）山（さん）と名付。又は涌出（ゆうしゆつ）が
嶽（だけ）とも号（かう）し給ひし也。又そのほとりにこれも
おとらぬ大山なるに。此山にこもらせ給て。御
修法（しゆほう）まし〳〵けるに。たちまち空より五 柄（へい）
の利剱（りけん）あまくだり。金剛（こんがう）蔵王（さわう）あらはれ出
させ給ひて。空海（くうかい）としはらくかたらひおは
しまして。此処にこそ伽藍（がらん）をつくらるべし。仏
法はんじやうの霊地（れいち）なりと。あひともに諾（だく）し。
蔵王（ざわう）も此所に跡をたれんとの御ちかひにて。け

それより、かの山を「我拝師山（かわいしさん）」と名付け、また「涌出嶽（ゆうしゅつがたけ）」とも称しなさった。また、その周辺にも、これに劣らぬ大きな山があり、この山にお籠もりになって御修法（ごしゅほう）をなさっていたところ、たちまち空より五柄の利剣が天から降り、金剛蔵王（こんごうざおう）が現れ出なさって、空海としばらくお語らいになり、「この地こそ伽藍を建てるべきところである。仏法繁盛の霊地である」と、ともにご承諾なさり、蔵王もこの地に御跡をとどめようとのお誓いにて、煙のごとくにお消えになった。

[The Sacred Mountain of the Sword]
From that time on, that mountain was named "Kawaiishi-san" (Mount Kawaiishi), and it was also called "Yūshutsu-ga-take" (The Peak of Emergence). Moreover, nearby stood another great mountain no less impressive than the first. While Kūkai secluded himself on this mountain and was performing his ritual meditations, suddenly five-hilted divine swords descended from the sky, and Kongō Zaō — the Adamantine Sovereign King — manifested himself. He conversed with Kūkai for a time, and declared: "It is here that a temple complex should be built — this is a sacred ground where the Buddhist teachings shall flourish." Both gave their assent together, and Zaō vowed that he too would leave his sacred presence in this place, whereupon he vanished like a wisp of smoke.
