空海を始（はじめ）奉り。みな〳〵申あはされ空海は。これ
青竜の恵果（けいくわ）和尚（くわしやう）なり。いにしへのちぎりをわすれ
給はず。あらはれ出て。かく護持（ごぢ）し給ふ事の有がた
さよと。をの〳〵こくうにむかつて。礼拝したまへり
【皇嘉門の額の字力士となる事】
こゝに皇嘉門（くはうかもん）のほとりに大学（かく）の助。紀（き）の百枝（もゝえ）といへ
る有。つねに北窓（ほくそう）を承て。空海のあそはされたる皇
嘉門の額の文字を力士（りきし）跋扈（のはつこ）すとあざけりをなし
し。ある時百枝かりねのゆめのうつゝともまだわ
かざるに。一人の力士きたりてまくらがみにた
ちて。こぶしをあげてしたゝかにうちけり。百
枝おどろき。そのさまを見るに。かのがくの字（し）

空海をはじめとして、みなみなで話し合われ、「空海よ、これは青龍寺の恵果和尚に違いない。昔のご縁を忘れることなく、現れ出て、このようにお護りくださるとは、なんとありがたいことよ」と、それぞれが虚空に向かって礼拝なさった。
【皇嘉門の額の字が力士となる事】
さて、皇嘉門のほとりに、大学助・紀百枝という者がいた。つねに北窓に寄りかかって（斜めに構えて）、空海がお書きになった皇嘉門の額の文字を、「力士が跋扈しているようだ」とあざけりをなしていた。ある時、百枝がうとうとしていて、夢かうつつかまだわからないでいるうちに、一人の力士がやって来て枕元に立ち、こぶしを上げてしたたかに（百枝を）打った。百枝は驚いて、そのさまを見ると、かの額の文字（の化身）が——

Kūkai and all those present conferred with one another, saying: "This must surely be the Venerable Huiguo of Qinglong Temple. Without forgetting the bond formed in days of old, he has appeared before us and protected Kūkai in this way — how grateful we are!" One and all turned toward the empty sky and performed their prostrations in reverence.
【The Characters of the Kōkamon Gate Plaque Become a Warrior】
Now, near the Kōkamon Gate there lived a man called Kino Momoe, an Assistant of the University (Daigaku no suke). He habitually leaned by the north window with an air of contempt, mocking the characters that Kūkai had written for the plaque of the Kōkamon Gate, saying they looked as though "warriors (rikishi) were rampaging across the board." One night, while Momoe was dozing in that uncertain state between dream and waking, a single warrior came and stood at his pillow, raised his fist, and struck him a tremendous blow. Startled awake, Momoe looked at the figure before him, and saw that it was none other than the characters of that very plaque——
