さて仏法（ぶつほう）しゆぎやうあるべしとて。其頃（ころ）
の名（めい）知識（ちしき）。石渕（いはぶち）の権操（ごんざう）和尚（くはしやう）の室（しつ）に入らせ
たまひけり。此 和尚（くはしやう）と申すは。三 論宗（ろんしう）の名（めい）
徳（とく）にて。世のきこえたつとき和尚にてま
し〳〵けり。独虚（どつこ）の観（くわん）は御むねのうちにあき
らかに。八不の理（り）は御舌（した）のはしになめらか也。世の
人 明星（みやうじやう）の化身（けしん）なりと。申けり。此和尚に対面（たいめん）あ
りければ権操（ごんざう）和尚（くはしやう）のたまひけるは。此人の相（さう）たゞ人
にはあらずと。殊によろこび給ひて。師弟（してい）の御
契約あさからずまし〳〵けり

現代語訳
さて仏法を修行すべきであるとして、その頃の名僧である石淵の権操和尚の門下に入られた。この和尚と申すのは、三論宗の名徳であって、世間に聞こえた尊い和尚でいらっしゃった。独虚の観法は胸の内に明らかであり、八不の理は舌先に滑らかであった。世の人は明星の化身であると申していた。この和尚との対面があったところ、権操和尚がおっしゃるには、この人の相は普通の人ではないと、特に喜ばれて、師弟の契約は浅からぬものでいらっしゃった。

Now, deciding that he should practice the Buddhist Law, he entered the tutelage of the renowned monk Gonzō of Iwabuchi, who was a famous teacher of that time. This monk was a person of great virtue in the Sanron school and a revered monk well-known throughout the world. The meditation on emptiness was clear within his breast, and the principle of the Eight Negations flowed smoothly from his tongue. People said he was an incarnation of the Morning Star. When they had their meeting, the monk Gonzō said that this person's physiognomy was not that of an ordinary person, and rejoicing especially, the bond between master and disciple was profound.
