【御遺言の事】
さて承和（せうわ）二年三月十五日に御入定もちかづかせ
給ふとやおぼしめしけむ。又かねて御 遺言（ゆいけん）してしめ
し給ひけるは。我 入定（にうでう）せん事は。今年（こんねん）今月（こんげつ）廿一日
寅（とら）の刻（こく）也。もろ〳〵の弟子（でし）等（ら）悲泣（ひきう）する事なかれ。我す
なはち入定の後は両部（りやうぶ）三 宝（ぼう）に帰信（きしん）し奉るべし。自（し）
然（ぜん）に我かはつて眷顧（けんこ）をかうふらん。我 生年（しやうねん）六十二 夏（か）
臈（らう）四十一なり。我はじめに思ひしは。一百 歳（さい）にをよびて
世にながらへ教法（けうほう）をまぼりたてまつらんと。今はもろ〳〵
の弟子等をたのんで。あがく即世（そくせい）しなんとおもふ也

さて、承和二年三月十五日に、御入定の時が近づいたとお感じになったのであろうか、かねてより御遺言としてお示しになったことには、「私が入定するのは、今年の今月二十一日、寅の刻（午前四時頃）である。諸々の弟子たちよ、悲しみ泣くことはするな。私はそのまま入定した後も、両部の三宝に帰信し奉るべきである。おのずと私の代わりに（三宝が）弟子たちを顧み、恵みをお与えくださるであろう。私の生年は六十二歳、（出家してからの）夏臈は四十一である。私がはじめに思っていたことは、百歳まで生き長らえて、世にあって教法をお守り申し上げようということであった。今は、諸々の弟子たちを頼みとして、速やかに（この世を）去ろうと思うのである。」

**[On the Matter of the Final Testament]**
Now, on the fifteenth day of the third month of Jōwa (Shōwa) second year, perhaps sensing that the time of his nyūjō (entering eternal meditation) was drawing near, Kūkai had previously set forth his final testament, declaring: "The day of my nyūjō shall be the twenty-first day of this month, in the hour of the Tiger (approximately 4 a.m.), of this very year. You, my many disciples, must not weep and grieve. After I have entered into nyūjō, you should take refuge in and pay reverence to the Three Treasures of the Two Mandalas. Naturally, in my stead, they will look upon you with benevolent care and bestow their grace upon you. My age in this life is sixty-two; the number of summers since my ordination is forty-one. What I had originally intended was to live to one hundred years of age, remaining in this world to protect and uphold the Dharma. Now, placing my trust in all of you, my disciples, I intend to swiftly depart from this world."
