奉は。人皇（にんわう）五十二代。嵯峨（さがの）天皇（てんわう）と申奉る皇帝（おほきみ）也。
さて御からをば御 遺詔（ゆいぜう）のむねにまかせて。御 棺（くはん）を嵯（さ）
峨（が）野（の）の木の上にかけをき奉るに。しばらくあつて
雲（くも）に入けり。さて南山（なんざん）の方よりむらさきの雲さが野
まで引つたひ。駕輿丁（かよぢやう）共雲のうちにて。手に〳〵御
棺（くはん）をかるめ。高野（かうや）山（さん）の方へとび行ける。見る人きもを
けし。聞人かんにたえずといふ事なし

現代語訳
（承和）九年七月十五日にお亡くなりになった。この帝と申し上げるのは、人皇五十二代、嵯峨天皇と申し上げる皇帝である。さて、ご遺体は御遺詔の旨にしたがって、御棺を嵯峨野の木の上に掛け置き申し上げると、しばらくして雲の中に入っていった。すると南山（高野山）の方から紫の雲が嵯峨野まで引き連なり、駕輿丁たちが雲の中で手々に御棺を担ぎ、高野山の方へと飛んでいった。見る人は肝をつぶし、聞く人も感嘆せずにはいられなかったということである。

英語訳
On the fifteenth day of the seventh month of the ninth year [of Jōwa, 842], the Emperor passed away. This Emperor, as he is reverently called, was the fifty-second human sovereign, known as Emperor Saga. In accordance with the Emperor's last wishes as set out in his imperial edict, the imperial coffin was placed up in the trees of Sagano. After a short while, it entered into the clouds. Then, from the direction of Nanzan (Mt. Kōya), a purple cloud stretched all the way to Sagano, and the palanquin-bearers, within the cloud, lifted the imperial coffin with their hands and flew off in the direction of Mt. Kōya. Those who witnessed it were left utterly awestruck, and those who heard of it could not but be moved with profound wonder.
