其時僧正の御 弟子（でし）。石山（いしやま）内供（ないく）淳祐（しゆんゆう）といふ人。僧正に
したがひまいらせて。同じく御 廟（べう）におはしけれど。更
に御すがたをおがみえ給はずして。かなしみ給ひしかば
僧正（そうじやう）御 弟子（でし）の手を取。わづかに御ひざばかりに手（て）
をふれ奉られけるに。其手一 生（しやう）のあひだ異香（いきやう）薫（くん）
じて其 匂（にほ）ひ。更にうする事なかりしとかや。扨
僧正みやこにのぼり。御ころもをたてまつりし。御
廟内（べうない）のていを。くはしく奏（そう）したまひしかば。みか
どをはしめたてまつり。公卿（くぎやう）大臣（だいじん）おの〳〵ありがた
くぞおもはれける

現代語訳
その時、僧正（観賢）の御弟子で、石山内供・淳祐という人が、僧正に従ってお仕えし、同じく御廟においでになっていたが、（淳祐は）ついに大師の御姿を拝み見ることができず、悲しんでいらっしゃった。そこで僧正は弟子の手を取り、かろうじて大師の御膝のあたりにその手を触れさせ申し上げたところ、その手は一生の間、異香が薫り続け、その匂いが消えることは全くなかったということである。さて、僧正は都に上り、御衣をお納め申し上げた御廟内の様子を、詳しく（帝に）奏上なさったので、帝をはじめとして、公卿・大臣たちがそれぞれ、ありがたいことよと感じ入られたのであった。

英語訳
At that time, a disciple of the Ecclesiastical Administrator (Kangen), a man known as Junnyu, the Naiku of Ishiyama, was attending upon the Administrator and was likewise present at the御廟 (Mausoleum). However, he was utterly unable to behold the Great Master's form, and was overcome with grief. The Administrator therefore took his disciple's hand and just barely allowed it to touch the Great Master's knees. From that moment on, throughout the rest of his life, an extraordinary fragrance continued to emanate from that hand, and it is said that the scent never faded away. Thereafter, the Administrator went up to the capital and gave a detailed account to the Emperor of the interior of the mausoleum and of the presentation of the imperial robe. The Emperor, along with the court nobles and ministers, each felt profound reverence and gratitude upon hearing this.
