に高野（かうや）に参（さん）ず。一人の椅子（いす）に座（ざ）して
われにむかつてのたまひけるは。なんぢはやく此
地に来るべし。衣食（いしよく）にいたつてはわれあたふべし菅（かん）
丞相（せうじやう）はわが遺世（いせい）の身（み）。小野（をの）の道風（たうふう）は我（わが）順世（じゆんせい）の身
なりと。われ修学（しゆがく）をつとむるゆへに。大師の冥鑑（みやうかん）
にあづかりけると。霊夢（れいむ）ありがたくおもひけると

現代語訳
高野山に参った。一人（の方が）椅子に座って、私に向かってこのようにおっしゃった。「汝よ、早くこの地に来るがよい。衣食については、私が与えよう。菅丞相（かんしょうじょう）は私の遺世（いせい）の身、小野の道風（みちかぜ）は私の順世（じゅんせい）の身である」と。私が修学に励んでいるゆえに、大師の冥鑑（みょうかん）にあずかることができたのだと、この霊夢を有り難く思ったということである。

英語訳
...he found himself on Mount Kōya. A single figure was seated on a chair and turned to face him, saying: "You should come to this place without delay. As for food and clothing, I shall provide for you. Sugawara no Michizane (Minister Kan) is my body remaining in this world after death, and Ono no Tōfū is my body that followed the natural order of death." Because he had devoted himself diligently to study and practice, he was thus blessed with the watchful grace of the Great Master — and so it was that he held this auspicious dream in the deepest gratitude.
