の魔事（まじ）品（ほん）を書（かき）つけさせ給へは。虚空（こくう）に文字（もんじ）
すはりて。六書（りくしよ）八 体（てい）の点画（てんくわく）すこしもみたるゝ
事なく。あきらかに文字すはり。其 文字（もんじ）より
くはうみやうかくやくとして。十 方（はう）をてらしければ。
天狗（てんぐ）ども其ひかりにおそれて。八方ににげ去（さり）
あへてちかづく事なく。四方の山〳〵音もせす。
物しつかに成（なり）けり。空海（くうかい）いよ〳〵御 持念（ぢねん）あつて
てづから。大日（だいにち）如来（によらい）の尊像（そんざう）をつくり給ひて。彼
寺の本尊（ほ ぞん）に安置（あんち）しおこなひすまし給へば。
いよ〳〵悪魔（あくま）境（さかい）をさり。かへつて仏法（ふつほう）はんじやう
の地となりて。国土のまもりの御寺とぞ成
にけり。その隣国（りんこく）のたみ百せいにい
たるまて。そのゝちはまえんにおそはるゝ
事なく。いまの代（よ）まてもめでたき霊地（れいち）
とぞなりにける。扨又此寺を名づけて。修善（しゆぜん）
寺（じ）と申なり。有がたかりし霊験（れいげん）筆にもつ
くしがたき事ども也
現代語訳
の魔事品を書きつけられると、虚空に文字が現れて、六書八体の点画が少しも乱れることなく、明らかに文字が現れた。その文字から光明が輝いて、十方を照らしたので、天狗どもはその光に恐れて、八方に逃げ去り、あえて近づくことなく、四方の山々も音もせず、物静かになった。
空海はいよいよ持念を込めて、手ずから大日如来の尊像を作られて、その寺の本尊として安置し、修行を済まされると、いよいよ悪魔は境を去り、かえって仏法繁栄の地となって、国土の守りの御寺となった。
その隣国の民百姓に至るまで、その後は魔縁に襲われることなく、今の代まででも素晴らしい霊地となった。さてまたこの寺を名づけて修善寺と申すのである。ありがたい霊験は筆にも尽くしがたいことどもである。
英語訳
When he inscribed the chapter on demonic matters from the Great Prajñā [Paramita Sutra], characters appeared in the void. The strokes and marks of the six categories and eight styles [of calligraphy] were written clearly without the slightest disorder, and the characters appeared distinctly in the sky. From these characters, a brilliant light shone forth, illuminating the ten directions. The tengu, frightened by this light, fled in all eight directions, not daring to approach. The mountains in all four directions became silent, and everything became peaceful.
Kukai concentrated his meditation even more intensely and carved with his own hands a sacred image of Dainichi Nyorai (Mahāvairocana Buddha), enshrining it as the principal deity of that temple. When he completed his practices, the demons departed from that realm entirely, and it became instead a land where the Buddha's teachings flourished, transforming into a temple that protects the nation.
Even the common people of neighboring provinces were no longer troubled by demonic influences thereafter, and it became a blessed sacred site that remains so to this day. This temple was named Shuzenji Temple. The miraculous spiritual benefits were so wonderful that they cannot be fully described in writing.
