に似（に）たり。いざ先（まづ）見せ給へといへば櫃（ひつ）にかくして。こゝに
はもたず。たゝ序（じよ）を作（つく）りてたべよ。はしに置（おか）んと云。予（よ）お
もはく。文を披（ひらい）て序（じよ）を書（かき）。山を見て景（けい）を賦（ふ）するは古（いにしへ）よ
り人のなす所也。事をかくして。はしをけかせとは可（をか）笑（しき）人の
云（いひ）事や。然共 今宵（こよひ）の腸（はらわた）を断（たつ）にかなへる折からなれば夢（ゆめ）か
や覚（おぼえ）ず。其人の前にして筆（ふで）を執（とり）。誠（まこと）に須弥（しゆみ）聚（じゆ）の筆（ふで）は
江（がう）海（かい）量（りやう）の硯（すゝり）も染（そめ）たらず。定（さだめ）て其 堂（たう）の□ける所は。且（かつ）

現代語訳
のようです。さあ、まず見せてくださいと言うと、櫃に隠してあって、ここには持っていない。ただ序文を作って欲しい。巻頭に置こうと言う。私は思うに、文を開いて序を書き、山を見て景色を詠むのは古来より人のすることである。事柄を隠して、序文を書かせるとは、おかしな人の言うことよ。しかしながら、今宵の心を痛める折からなので、夢なのか現実なのかわからない。その人の前で筆を取った。誠に須弥山ほどの筆があっても、大海のような硯でも足りないだろう。きっとその書き記すところは、せいぜい塵点劫の一塵ほどであろう。ただ願うのは過ちを避けて真実につき、世の幼いものを導いて、急いでそれぞれを誘おうということである。

It seems so. "Come, first show it to me," I said, but he replied that it was hidden in a chest and he didn't have it here. "Just write a preface for me. I'll place it at the beginning," he said. I thought to myself: opening texts to write prefaces and viewing mountains to compose scenic poetry has been what people do since ancient times. But to hide the content and ask me to write a preface—what an absurd thing for a person to say! However, since this was a moment that pierced my heart tonight, I couldn't tell if it was a dream or reality. I took up my brush before that person. Truly, even with a brush as large as Mount Sumeru and an inkstone as vast as the ocean, it would not be sufficient. Surely what I can record amounts to but a single speck of dust in the kalpa of dust motes. I only wish to avoid errors and stick to truth, to guide the innocent ones of this world and quickly lead each of them forward.
