【恵果和尚に御受法并灌頂の事】
弘法大師御伝記巻第三
さるほとに。空海（くうかい）和尚（くはしやう）渡天（とてん）ありて後（のち）も
又 西明寺（さいみやうじ）の故院（こゐん）にすませ給ひけるがいよ〳〵
求法（ぐほう）の御心さしふかくまし〳〵て。こゝの山々か
しこの里々をめくりて御 法（のり）の師をもと
めありき給ひしに青龍寺（しやうりうじ）の恵果（けいくは）和尚（くはしやう）
と申す御人まし〳〵ける。此和尚と申たて
まつるは。大 興善寺（こうぜんじ）不空（くう）三蔵の御弟子にて
真言（しんごん）の大 祖（そ）大 日（にち）如来（によらい）により。七 葉（よう）の嫡弟（ちやくてい）なり
されば。二代のみかどもくはんじやうをうけた
まひ。四 輩（はい）の弟子（でし）も密蔵（みつざう）をならふ徳行（とつかう）と

さて、空海和尚が渡唐なされた後も、引き続き西明寺の旧院にお住まいになっておられたが、いよいよ求法への御志が深まり、あちらの山々、こちらの里々をめぐって、仏法の師をお求め歩かれた。そうしたところ、青龍寺の恵果和尚と申し上げる御方がおられた。この和尚と申し上げる方は、大興善寺の不空三蔵の御弟子であって、真言の大祖・大日如来より受け継がれた七葉の嫡弟（正統な法嗣）である。それゆえ、二代の天子も灌頂を受けられ、四輩の弟子たちも密蔵を学んだ、徳行の高い御方で、

Now, even after the Venerable Kūkai had crossed over to Tang China, he continued to reside in the former quarters of Ximingsi (West Brightness Temple). His resolve to seek the Dharma grew ever deeper, and he traveled through the mountains and villages of that land, searching for a master of the Buddhist teachings. It was then that he came upon a certain venerable person: the Master Huiguo of Qinglong Temple (Blue Dragon Temple). This master was a disciple of the Tripiṭaka Master Amoghavajra (Fūkū) of Daxingshan Temple, and was the legitimate Dharma heir (seventh-generation successor) of the lineage descending from Mahāvairocana, the Great Progenitor of Shingon.
