ひ青龍寺（しやうりうし）恵果（けいくは）和尚のもとにまふて給ひ
しかは和尚空海をつく〳〵と見給ひて御ゑみ
をふくみのたまひけるは。われ此としころなん
ちが来る事をしりてあひまつことひさし。来
る事なにとておそかりしけふしもあひ侍る
事大きなるさいはいにあらずやとて。ずいきの涙

現代語訳

空海はこのことをお聞きになり、西明寺の僧・志明や談勝ら五、六人の僧たちを連れて、青龍寺の恵果和尚のもとへお訪ねになった。すると和尚は空海をじっくりとご覧になり、微笑みをたたえておっしゃったことには、「私はここ数年、そなたが来ることを知って、お会いするのをずっと待ち続けておった。どうしてこれほど遅くなったのか。今日こうしてお会いできたことは、何と大きな喜びではないか」と。そして感激の涙にむせび返られ、しばらくの間をおいてからおっしゃるには——

Upon hearing of this, Kūkai set out to call upon the Venerable Huiguo at Qinglongsi, accompanied by five or six monks from Ximingsi, including the monks Zhiming and Tansheng. When he arrived, the Venerable Huiguo gazed upon Kūkai with great attention, and with a gentle smile upon his face, spoke these words: "For some years now I have known of your coming and have long awaited our meeting. Why have you tarried so? That we should meet today — is this not a most tremendous joy?" With that, the Venerable Huiguo was overcome with tears of deep emotion, and after some time had passed, he continued to speak——
