かの護法もおそれをなしてちかつき奉る事なく
むかしくかへりしとかやありかたかりしつうりき
かな。かゝるさまたげどもおほかりしかとも。も
とより。ごんじやの御身なれは。のこらず大
秘法（ひほう）どもをつたへさづかり給ひけり。さて御 受（じゆ）
【恵果御入滅再来の事】
法の師（し）恵果（けいくは）和尚（くはしやう）日を経（へ）月をえらみて御 遷（せん）
化（げ）の期（ご）やうやくちかつきけれは。師（し）資 相伝（さうてん）
の物とも。こと〳〵く空海に附属（ふぞく）し給ひけり。
和尚のたまひけるは。此 南部（なんぶ）の大法一百 余（よ）部（ぶ）
の金剛（こんがう）乗（ぜう）の法および三蔵 伝（てん）付（ふ）の物ならびに
供養（くやう）の具（ぐ）等なんぢ頂戴（ちやうだい）して海内（かいだい）にるてんす
現代語訳
【挿し絵】
あの護法も恐れをなして（空海に）近づき申し上げることなく、むなしく帰ってしまったということである。ありがたいことよ、（空海の）神通力よ。このような妨げが数多くあったけれども、もとより権者（ごんじゃ）のお身であられるので、残らず大秘法どもを伝え授けていただかれたのであった。
さて、御受法の師、恵果和尚は、日を経て月を数えるうちに、ご遷化（入滅）の時期がようやく近づいてきたので、師から弟子へと相伝すべき物どもを、ことごとく空海にお授けになられた。
【恵果、御入滅・再来の事】
和尚がおっしゃるには、「この南部（南天竺）の大法、百余部の金剛乗の法、および三蔵が伝え付けたる物、ならびに供養の具等を、汝が頂戴して海内（天下・世界）に流伝せよ。

That dharma guardian, overcome with fear, was unable to approach (Kūkai) and returned home empty-handed, or so the story goes. How wondrous indeed was (Kūkai's) supernatural power! Though there were many such obstructions, since he was from the very beginning a manifestation of a divine being (gonja), he received in full the transmission of all the great secret dharmas.
Now, as for the master from whom he received the dharma—the Venerable Huìguǒ—as the days passed and the months were counted, the time of his passing (entering nirvāṇa) gradually drew near, and so he entrusted to Kūkai, without exception, all the objects and teachings that were to be transmitted from master to disciple.
【On the Venerable Huìguǒ's Passing and Return】
The Venerable Master declared: "These great dharmas of the Southern tradition—over one hundred sections of the Vajrayāna teachings, as well as the objects transmitted by the Tripiṭaka masters, together with the implements of ritual offering—you shall receive and cause them to flow and spread throughout the world (within the seas).
