現代語訳
指して、飛ぶがごとくに行きしかば、勅使も「さもあらん」と、感に堪えられないでいたが、その後、唐（もろこし）より書（ふみ）を送ってきて、何月何日に青龍寺の経蔵に火難があったが、東の方より、にわかに大雨が降りきたって、これを消して、その難を救ったと伝えてきたので、かの勅使をはじめ、見聞きした人々で、驚かない者はなかった。

—and went flying as if through the air toward the west. The imperial envoy, deeply moved, could not contain his admiration, thinking to himself, "So it must be." And then, some time later, a letter arrived from China, conveying the news that on such-and-such a month and day, a fire had broken out in the scripture repository of Qinglong Temple, but that a sudden heavy rain had come from the eastern direction and extinguished it, thereby saving them from that calamity. Upon hearing this, there was not a single person among the imperial envoy or any of those who came to hear of it who was not filled with profound astonishment.
