とほり給ふに。ある人御宿をまいらせ。夜もすがら
の物語に。しか〳〵のよし申けれは。さらばそれ
がし加持（かぢ）して。あたゆべしとて。壇（だん）をかまへ
給ひ。いのらせ給ふに。池の底より水わきいて
ふしたけ五丈の大りう。水のうへにあらはれ
出たり。それより池みづもとのことくに。
わきみちて。日でり月をかさぬれとも今
にいたりてかはくことなし。すなはち。そ
のところにてらをたてゝ。その名（な）を竜泉寺（りうせんじ）
と申すとかや

現代語訳

通り給うに、ある人が御宿をお供えした。夜もすがらの物語で、そのようなことを申し上げたので、「それならば、私が加持して、与えてあげましょう」とおっしゃって、壇を設けられた。お祈りなされると、池の底より水が湧き出て、身の丈五丈の大きな龍が、水の上に現れ出た。それより池の水も元の通りに湧き満ちて、日照りが月を重ねても、今に至って涸れることがない。すなわち、その場所に寺を建てて、その名を竜泉寺と申すとかや。

英語訳

When he passed through, a certain person offered him lodging. During their all-night conversation, when this matter was mentioned, Kūkai said, "Then I shall perform ritual prayers and bestow [water] upon you," and he set up an altar. When he prayed, water gushed forth from the bottom of the pond, and a great dragon five jō tall appeared above the water. From then on, the pond water also welled up and filled as it had before, and even though droughts may continue for months, to this day it never dries up. Consequently, a temple was built at that location, and its name is called Ryūsen-ji (Dragon Spring Temple), or so it is said.
