一 毎月一度、辰の日・辰の刻・辰の方角にある井戸の水を汲み、辰年生まれの人をもって屋根へ撒くべきである。これは火防（ひぶせ）のまじないである。ただし、辰の方角の井戸や辰年生まれの人がいない場合は省略してもよいが、時刻・日取りを忘れてはならない。
一 「東の棟に西庇（ひさし）」という事がある。家の中央より真東に向かって棟を継ぎ足し、真西の方向へ庇を下ろすと、その家に必ず異変が起きると言われている。実際に試してみたことがあるので、深く慎むべきである。
一 家作（いえつくり）の手始めの日には凶日が数多くあるので、日を選び、礎石と土台を据える際にも水盛り（水平を測ること）をすることが火防になる。その上に、祈念と陰徳（人知れず善行を積むこと）を施すべきである。

1. Once every month, on the day of the Dragon (*tatsu no hi*), at the Hour of the Dragon (*tatsu no koku*), draw water from a well located in the direction of the Dragon (east-southeast), and have a person born in the Year of the Dragon sprinkle it upon the roof. This is a charm for fire prevention. However, if no well in the direction of the Dragon nor a person born in the Year of the Dragon is available, this step may be omitted—but one must not forget to observe the correct time and day.
1. There is something called "a western eave (*nishi-hisashi*) on an eastern ridgepole (*higashi no mune*)." If one extends a ridgepole from the center of the house directly toward the east, and then extends the eaves down toward the due west, it is said that a misfortune will certainly befall that household. As this has been borne out in practice, one should be deeply cautious about it.
1. There are many inauspicious days at the outset of house construction; one should carefully choose the day, and the act of using a water level (*mizumori*) when laying the foundation stones and base timbers itself serves as a fire prevention measure. Beyond this, one should offer prayers and practice hidden virtue (*intoku*—performing good deeds without seeking recognition).
Days each month when the earth must not be disturbed / likewise, *Jika* (Ground Fire) days: the 10th, 20th, and last day of each month, and within the four seasonal *doyō* periods.
