しるしにして二丁町吉原の焼亡度〳〵なれども家作の造
立焼野に草の生ふるが如し
一火防の神を祈るは勿論なれども近火にても風筋替れはのが
るゝ故常に風神尊を祈るべし人丸の神もかきのもと
にて火とまると云理にこそあれ又 易（ゑき）か人相に火災のきざし
あらは早く祈念して何にても所持の品を焼すつへし
一廿八宿の内に亢（こう）宿といふ日あり此日に普請を始めれは十日の内に
凶事ありときくされは普請小屋より出火すること度〳〵あり日々
八宿の吉凶を用ゆる人まゝ有八宿の事は追てあらはすべし
一類焼は是非なけれとも自火を要慎（ようじん）すべし是平日の心がけ第一也まづ
たばこの吹がらを途中にても踏（ふみ）けすべからず石瓦にて消すへし
一毎年正月十二月廿四日 厳（きび）しく禁酒すべし卯の上刻より酉の上刻
まで酒（さか）塩にも遣はず客来有ても堅く断るべし自火を出さぬ
まじなひ也世人知りたる事なれともしるし置ぬ
現代語訳
（これは繁華の）証（しるし）であって、二丁町・吉原が何度焼失しても、家屋の建て直しは焼け野原に草が生えるがごとく（すぐに元通りになる）。
一 火防（ひぶせ）の神を祈ることは言うまでもないが、近くで火事が起きても風向きが変われば難を逃れることができるので、常に風神尊を祈るべきである。人丸の神も「柿本」にちなんで「火が止まる」という語呂合わせの意味があると言われている。また、易占（えきせん）や人相見（にんそうみ）において火災の兆しがあれば、早めに祈念して、何であれ所持の品を（まじないとして）焼き捨てるべきである。
一 二十八宿の中に「亢宿（こうしゅく）」という日がある。この日に普請（建築工事）を始めると、十日以内に凶事があると聞く。それゆえ、普請小屋（工事の仮小屋）から出火することが度々ある。日々、八宿の吉凶を用いる人もいる。八宿のことについては追って記すべきである。
一 類焼（もらい火による延焼）はやむを得ないが、自火（自分の家からの出火）には十分に用心すべきである。これが日頃の心がけとして最も大切なことである。まず、煙草の吸い殻を途中であっても踏み消してはならない。石や瓦で消すべきである。
一 毎年正月と十二月の二十四日には、厳しく禁酒すべきである。卯の上刻（午前六時頃）から酉の上刻（午後六時頃）まで、酒を酒塩（料理用の酒・塩）にも使わず、客が来ても固く断るべきである。これは自火を出さないためのまじないである。世人には知られていることではあるが、ここに記し置く。

It goes without saying that one should pray to the gods of fire prevention, but since even a nearby fire can be escaped if the direction of the wind shifts, one ought always to pray to the God of Wind (*Fūjin-son*). It is also said that the deity Hitomaro offers protection because the name "Kakinomoto" (*kaki* = persimmon/fence, *moto* = base/origin) is a wordplay on "fire stopping" (*hi ga tomaru*). Furthermore, if signs of fire disaster appear in divination (*eki*) or physiognomy (*ninsō*), one should quickly perform prayers and rituals and burn some object among one's possessions as a charm.
1. Among the Twenty-Eight Lunar Mansions, there is a day called *Kō-shuku* (the Neck Mansion). It is said that if one begins construction on this day, some misfortune will occur within ten days. It is for this reason that fires frequently break out from construction site huts. There are those who observe the auspiciousness or inauspiciousness of the Eight Mansions (*hachi-shuku*) on a daily basis. The matter of the Eight Mansions shall be set forth in due course.
1. Fires spreading from neighboring properties (*ruishō*) cannot be helped, but one ought to be especially careful about fires originating from one's own home (*jika*). This is the single most important matter of daily mindfulness. First and foremost, one must not stamp out tobacco embers on the road; they should be extinguished using a stone or a roof tile.
1. Every year, on the twenty-fourth day of the first month and the twelfth month, one should strictly abstain from alcohol. From the first quarter of the Hour of the Rabbit (around 6 a.m.) to the first quarter of the Hour of the Rooster (around 6 p.m.), no alcohol should be used—not even as a cooking ingredient (*sakajio*)—and even if guests arrive, one should firmly decline to serve it. This is a charm to prevent fires from breaking out in one's own home. Though this is something the people of the world already know, it is recorded here nonetheless.
