狼狽（うろた）へて夫婦子孫も散々に成或は烟りに巻れ老少は
人馬にふまれ死するなり世中に火災程おそろしき物なし水死は
衣類面体に見覚あれとも焦（こげ）死するものは真黒に成て兄弟
のわかちもなし火を剋（こく）する物水なれども雨天にてもたゞちに消
ず大火と成ては水も人力も及ばぬ也
一　火の粉を防ぐには古き椶櫚（しゆろ）箒に水を付て消すへしと老人
の教なり

一　方位の吉凶を弁（わきま）へて逃る者は二度焼け三度やけには逢ざるべし
　　　　　　　鎮火（ひぶせ）の歌　　日蓮大菩薩
霜柱氷のはりに雪のけた水のたる木に火こそ消けれ
　これを写して棟木にはり置べし
ぬるぞ根太たのむぞたる木やなか竹何ごとあらはおこせむねの木
　　右の二首毎夜 唱（とな）へて臥すべし
よく聞けよ蛍程なる煙草の火心ゆるせは早鐘の声

現代語訳

狼狽して夫婦や子孫もばらばらになり、あるいは煙に巻かれ、老人や子供は人や馬に踏まれて死ぬのである。世の中に火災ほど恐ろしいものはない。水死した者は衣類や顔で見分けがつくが、焼け死んだ者は真っ黒になって兄弟の区別もつかない。火に勝つものは水であるが、雨天でもただちに消えず、大火となっては水も人力も及ばないのである。

一、火の粉を防ぐには古いシュロの箒に水をつけて消すべしというのが老人の教えである。

一、方位の吉凶をわきまえて逃げる者は二度焼け、三度焼けには遭わないであろう。

霜柱氷の張りに雪の桁水の垂木に火こそ消ゆけれ
これを写して棟木に貼り置くべし
濡るぞ根太頼むぞ垂木やなか竹何事あらば起こせ棟の木
右の二首を毎夜唱えて寝るべし
よく聞けよ蛍ほどなる煙草の火心許せば早鐘の声

英語訳

People become panicked, and husbands, wives, and children are scattered apart. Some are caught in smoke, while the elderly and young are trampled to death by people and horses. There is nothing in this world more terrifying than fire disasters. Those who die by drowning can be recognized by their clothing and faces, but those who burn to death become completely black, making it impossible to distinguish even between siblings. While water conquers fire, even during rainy weather fires do not immediately extinguish, and when they become great conflagrations, neither water nor human strength can prevail.

First, to prevent flying sparks, the teaching of the elders is to extinguish them using an old palm broom dipped in water.

First, those who understand the auspicious and inauspicious directions and flee accordingly will not encounter a second or third burning.

These two verses should be recited every night before sleeping.
Listen well - a tobacco fire no bigger than a firefly, if you let your guard down, becomes the sound of alarm bells.
