もえ出れは大火なるへし
一 丙（ひのえ）は火の兄ひのとは火の弟也兄は竃（かまど）の火弟は灯火等也又
寅卯は木にして火を生じ戌辰丑未は土にして火より土を
生ず万物焼ては皆土と成る理也又土より火をも生ずる也
土は五行の母にして万物土の気をうけて生ずる物也
一焼跡家作取懸りの前に地祭りの祈祷をすへし不浄場
は壺を取捨四尺四寸深さも同しく古土を堀捨清き土
を入替て新宅普請すへし不浄よけの法あれどももとめに

一世に宅相といふ事あれとも唐土（もろこし）にて貴人の館閣にのみ用ひて
庶士以下の用ゆる事あらざりしが近代諸国とも家相見
おこなはるゝといへ共古家の大極をよく見定むる者少し爰に

一、丙（ひのえ）は火の兄（陽の火）であり、丁（ひのと）は火の弟（陰の火）である。兄（陽）は竈（かまど）の火であり、弟（陰）は灯火などである。また、寅・卯は木の属性にして火を生じ、戌・辰・丑・未は土の属性にして、火から土を生ずる。万物は焼けると皆土となる、という道理である。また土から火をも生ずることがある。土は五行の母であって、万物は土の気を受けて生ずるものである。
一、焼け跡に家を建て始める前に、地祭りの祈祷を行うべきである。不浄な場所については、壺（古い埋め物など）を取り除き、四尺四寸（約１．３メートル）の深さに同じく掘って、古い土を掘り捨て、清らかな土を入れ替えてから新宅の普請をすべきである。不浄除けの法はほかにもあるが、求めに応じて伝授することにしよう。

1. *Hinoe* (丙, Yang Fire) is the elder brother of Fire, and *hinoto* (丁, Yin Fire) is the younger brother of Fire. The elder (Yang) represents the fire of the hearth (*kamado*), while the younger (Yin) represents lamplight and such. Furthermore, the Tiger and Rabbit [signs] belong to Wood and therefore generate Fire; the Dog, Dragon, Ox, and Sheep [signs] belong to Earth and therefore, from Fire, generate Earth. The principle here is that all things, when burned, become earth. Conversely, Earth can also generate Fire. Earth is the mother of the Five Phases (*gogyō*), and all things in creation are born by receiving the energy (*ki*) of Earth.
1. Before beginning construction on a burned-out lot, one should perform the prayers of a land-purification ritual (*jijimatsuri*). For impure sites, any buried jars or vessels should be removed, and one should dig to a depth of four shaku four sun (approximately 1.3 meters), disposing of the old soil and replacing it with clean earth, before beginning construction of the new dwelling. There are other methods for warding off impurity; these will be provided upon request.

Originally, in China (*Morokoshi*), it was used exclusively for the mansions and pavilions of nobles, and was not employed by commoners or those of lower station. In recent times, however, the practice of house-divination reading (*kasōmi*) has spread throughout the various provinces — and yet, those who can truly assess the broad fundamentals (*taikyoku*) of an old established house are few. In this regard, the school of Takaoka (*Takaoka no ichiryū*) is worthy of trust.
