**江戸大火年月並びに二十八宿・五行**
一、明暦三年丁酉（ひのととり）年〔觜宿（しすく）・火曜・奥山の火〕 正月十八日辰ノ刻より二十日まで
火元（出火場所）は本郷丸山より、深川海辺、また牛島あたりまで。十九日巳ノ刻、小石川新鷹匠町（こいしかわしんたかじょうまち）より出火。また同日酉ノ刻、糀町（こうじまち）より出火、二か所からの火により山王あたり・御曲輪内外、大小名（大名・小名）の屋敷、江戸の町々残らず、芝の海辺まで焼け、蔵の数およそ九千余棟が焼亡した。三日三晩にて火が鎮まった。詳しくは『武蔵鐙（むさしあぶみ）』に記されている。
一、さかのぼって申（さる）年の十一月より酉（とり）年の正月まで、八十日余りの旱魃（かんばつ）が続き、同（酉年正月）二十一日に大雪が降った。

**Record of Major Fires in Edo, with the Twenty-Eight Lunar Mansions and the Five Phases**
1. **The 3rd year of Meireki, the year Hinoto-Tori (丁酉, 1657)**
[Lunar mansion: *Shi* (觜宿, "Turtle Beak"); Day: Fire (*kayō*); Nature of fire: *Okuyama no hi* ("fire of the deep mountain")]
From the Hour of the Dragon (*tatsu no koku*) on the 18th day of the 1st month to the 20th day:
The fire originated at Hongō Maruyama and spread as far as the Fukagawa seaside and the vicinity of Ushijima. On the 19th day at the Hour of the Snake (*mi no koku*), another fire broke out at Koishikawa Shin-Takajō-machi. Furthermore, at the Hour of the Rooster (*tori no koku*) on the same day, a third fire broke out at Kōjimachi — from these two simultaneous outbreaks, the areas around Sannō, both inside and outside the *o-kuruwa* (the castle's outer enclosure), the residences of great and lesser lords (*daimyō* and *shōmyō*), and all the townspeople's districts of Edo without exception, as far as the Shiba seaside, were consumed. Approximately 9,000 or more storehouses (*kura*) were burned and destroyed. The fire was extinguished after three days and three nights. Full details are recorded in *Musashi Abumi* (武蔵鐙).
Furthermore: from the 11th month of the preceding year of the Monkey (*申*) to the 1st month of the year of the Rooster (*酉*), there had been a drought (*kanbatsu*) lasting more than eighty days, and on the 21st day of that same month a heavy snowfall occurred.
