を尽して長押（なげし）造りの書院三階の土蔵宝形の屋根等は
下賎の身分に応（おう）ぜず冥（めう）罰（ばつ）を蒙（かふむ）る事をしらさるもの也
又火災に逢ふても其以前に倍（ばい）して手厚き家作をなす
こと誠に歎（なげか）はしき事也殊に婦人のつふり道具に大金をつい
やせども魔（ま）除（よ）けにもならずはき物類下帯に至る迄高料
の品望み次第也いかなる珍宝名器也とも土蔵共に一時の
烟りと成ては涙（なみだ）のこほるゝ斗り無益の最上にして金銀の冥
理をしらさる人多し火災の事を思へは万事可成にしてよからんか
一町家にても熨斗（のし）目以上御用達の妻ならば婚姻の節地白
地黒のうちかけを着したりとも苦しからず然るに夫（をふと）と服紗小袖
にて妻は綸子（りんず）を着用するたぐひは御定めをも弁へず金銀
の有に任せて格式をおかせども御咎めもなく告るものも無
き故其非をしらざるもの多し

を尽くして、長押造りの書院や三階の土蔵、宝形の屋根等は下賤の身分には相応しくなく、天罰を受けることを知らない者である。また火災に遭っても、その以前よりも倍して豪華な家を建てることは、誠に嘆かわしいことである。特に婦人の髪飾り道具に大金を費やしても魔除けにもならず、履物類や下着に至るまで高価な品を望み次第である。いかなる珍宝や名器であっても、土蔵と共に一時の煙となっては涙が凍るばかりで、無益の極みであって、金銀の道理を知らない人が多い。火災のことを思えば、万事控えめにして良いのではないか。
一般の町家でも、熨斗目以上の御用達の妻ならば、婚礼の際に地白地黒の打掛を着用しても差し支えない。しかし夫は麻の小袖なのに妻は綸子を着用するような類いは、御定めも弁えず、金銀の有無に任せて格式を犯しても、お咎めもなく告発する者もいないため、その非を知らない者が多い。
上方の「着倒れ」と言っても、関東の町家の婦女の衣類には及ばない。

Women especially spend enormous sums on hair ornaments that provide no protection against evil, and they desire expensive items from footwear to undergarments.
