"I have continued as a farmer for generations and now live under the benevolent rule of our current lord, supporting my parents, wife and children within, without worry of bandits or other troubles, living peacefully. This is due to our lord's benevolent and profound grace, for which I am deeply grateful. My grandfather Kichizaemon, always mindful of this profound favor and hoping to be of service in unexpected official needs, practiced frugality in daily food and clothing, setting aside some silver coins as offerings of gratitude. However, I have not spent any of the silver accumulated over the years. Therefore, I petition that although it is a small amount, a total of 105 ryō in gold, I wish to present this during our current lord's benevolent reign. I humbly request that this offering be accepted and used even partially for official purposes. This would allow me to serve our benevolent lord's grace above and honor my ancestors' intentions below, for which I would be most grateful and honored."
This petition was reported to the senior retainers, who said it should be discussed with the magistrates. Subsequently, on March 5th of the following 18th year (Ushi), considering this matter exemplary, regarding Kichizaemon's holdings...
