Regarding patrols, they conduct one patrol after shift changes and one in the morning. Although no outsiders can enter the strictly enclosed area, making multiple patrols has not been practiced since ancient times.
1. On the 8th day of the 5th month of Bunka 7 (1810), Umeda Niemon from Imamura Denbei's group under the metsuke was promoted for the first time from yoriki group leader to Mikuni new guardhouse. Thereafter, temporary promotion destinations for yoriki group leaders were established. Previously, these were yoriaiuki (assembly-based) promotions.
1. On the 25th day of the 7th month of Tenmei 8 (1788), to monthly duty metsuke Nomura Jūdayū (as per separate document):
- The six men of the treasury lower guard shall continue to receive their stipends as before. The metsuke assistant groups and bow-bearing groups, totaling six groups, shall each assign one person to guard duty, and they shall serve in rotation. Moreover, it is ordered that the numbers be gradually reduced.
- Hereafter, the treasury lower guardhouse shall have one person each assigned to guard duty from the metsuke assistant groups and bow-bearing groups, totaling six groups.
However, as stated above, while the current six treasury lower guards are alive, guard duty shall be assigned in rotation. As ordered below, each shall handle their duties accordingly.
Goshoku-monogashira Metsuke-suke: Ōzeki Hikobei
Addendum: Since the treasury guard position has been abolished, when the arms magistrates come on duty, they are ordered to pay attention to patrolling the treasury. This matter should be conveyed to the arms magistrates.
Note: Since the eight members of the earthworks guard have been abolished, this was communicated to staying retainer Minagawa Yukinaga.
1. In An'ei 3 (1774), metsuke group leader Nakamura Sakiemon from Tateiwa Heiemon's group was promoted to saltpeter warehouse guard due to walking difficulties.
However, regarding group leaders, while the treasury guard position is the promotion destination, this appointment was made due to special circumstances.
1. On the 25th day of the 4th month of Kansei 10 (1798), the treasury guard position was assigned as a promotion destination for gun-bearing leaders as before.
1. Regarding Mikuni new guardhouse personnel:
On the 22nd day of the 6th month of Kansei 10 (1798), a new guardhouse was established at the location where disputes between Mikuni lodging quarter and Mikuni port, and Takitani village in Maruoka domain were resolved. One person from Kanatsu group and one person each from equivalent groups were assigned. Eight rice bales per year were provided to each. From Kyōwa 3 (1803), personnel were dispatched from regular groups.
1. On the 10th day of the 6th month of Kyōhō 12 (1727), a man named Yoshida Shōsuke was irregularly promoted to treasury guard due to certain circumstances, but died of illness on the 17th day of the 10th month. His heir was mentally disturbed, and being originally from another province with no other options, and having been previously appointed as an immigrant, due to circumstances, a suitable person was immediately hired with a stipend of 6 koku and provisions for 2 people, and immediately appointed treasury guard. Detailed records exist. However, Shōsuke had been promoted while maintaining his personal stipend of 9 koku and provisions for 2 people.
1. On the 11th day of the 2nd month of Genbun 1 (1736), three treasury guards fell ill. Although there was no precedent, since assigning outside assistance was inappropriate, two assistant personnel were assigned from within the monthly duty supervisory groups. Records exist of a notification being submitted to the gate authorities on the 14th.
1. On the 3rd day of the 8th month of the same 3rd year (1738), the treasury lower guards had been reduced by two people in previous years (marginal note: mentioned earlier, this was Kyōhō 13) and were working with six people, but since they were all elderly, mutual assistance during illness was difficult. They submitted a petition requesting restoration to eight people as before. On the 21st of the same month, two people were added, and on the 5th day of the 9th month, residential land was granted at both Sujikai Bridge and Takajō-machi as requested.
