**Right folio:**
To the south of the Sai River: Yamanakaanniwa Village — this suffered minor damage — and from here onward there was major flooding and loss of homes by flood: Taira Village, then Murayama Village. To the north of the Sai River: Yamanakaana-daira Village, Kazawa, Shimonagai, Daianji Village, Sasadaira, Sewaki, Hōgyoku, Koichi, Kubodera Village, Koshibami Village — extending as far as Kakuzawa. From here, the villages on the north bank of the river: Fukiage Village, Ichi Village, Araki Village, Nakano-gosho Village — as far as Sumi — Shimonoto Village. Beyond these, three more villages.
The villages of Kawanakajima that suffered flooding include: Matsubara Village, Yotsuya Village, Imazato Village, Dannohara Village, Imai Village, Komorisawa Village, Tanbajima Village, Shimo-Higano Village, Naka-Higano Village, Kami-Higano Village, Kutsumachi Village, Mitsusawa Village, Umisawa Village, Kitahara Village, Minamihara Village, Okada
**Left folio:**
Village, Yokogome Village, Takada Village, Shibazawa Village, Gohei-gawa Village — as far as Sumi — Ai Village, Hirota Village, Tobe Village, Kita-Tobe Village, Kojimada Village, Ainojima Village, Ushijima Village, Mamejima Village, Yokodōri Village, Mizusawa Village, Kinefuchi Village, Nakazawa Village, Uminuma Village, Komori Village, Tōfukuji Village, Shimo-Yokota Village.
Between this Shimo-Yokota and Tanbajima Village there is a distance of approximately two *ri* (roughly 8 km), and within this stretch, in the river itself, the flooding and loss of homes to the floodwaters were tremendous. That the waters swept all the way out to the great sea of Echigo in this manner was a calamity of a kind never before seen in recorded history. As for the locations of said flood damage and devastation, there may also have been areas outside (the Matsushiro) domain; from the lord of each such place, inspections were carried out, and relief measures (*oteat*) were provided in each case — (the text continues)
