　救有之しとかや扨又松代様にては地震
　にて家潰或は火難水難にて死亡人之ため御
　菩提所長国寺を初メ御領分諸宗之寺
　々へ被仰聞妻女山におゐて御読経有之其
　後は寺々帰院有つて其旦那之内死亡人
　之ため施餓鬼施行有之塔婆を被下
　旅人たりとも同様に被下是皆御殿様より
　寺々へ御布施を被致厚キ御仁心人〝々
　涙を流しける去頃は所々御出張御奉行
　様方御引取松本御出張御代官様被仰

　神仏を信心いたすべしと被仰渡実に難有
　御言葉申計りはなかりける時に四月十四日に
　御引取被遊候将又大地震に続て右之夜は
　少々雷ノ音いたし地震ゆり度々也翌日よ
　りは雷ノ音薄くなれ共四月八日頃迄数度
　之地震算ふるにいとまあらず是よりも度
　々の地震数左に記ス
　四月八日ノ夜四月十三日四月廿七日四月廿八日地

御救済があったとのことである。さて、松代様（真田家）においては、地震により家屋が潰れ、あるいは火災・水害によって亡くなられた方々のために、御菩提所である長国寺をはじめ、御領分内の諸宗の寺々へ御申し聞かせになり、妻女山において御読経をなさった。その後、各寺々へ帰院されて、それぞれの檀那（檀家）の中の死亡者のために施餓鬼・施行を行い、塔婆を下された。旅人であっても同様に（塔婆を）下された。これはすべて御殿様（藩主）より寺々へ御布施をなさったものであり、その篤い御仁心に、人々は涙を流したのであった。先頃、各所へ御出張されていた御奉行様方が御引き取り（帰還）になり、松本に御出張されていた御代官様が申し聞かせなさった。

「これからも御上（幕府・藩主）を敬い、第一に忠孝を励み、神仏を信心いたすべし」と御申し渡しになった。誠にありがたい御言葉であり、言葉に言い表すことができないほどであった。そのとき、四月十四日に御引き取り（帰還）あそばされた。

また、大地震に続いて、その夜は少々雷の音がして、地震が幾度も揺れた。翌日からは雷の音が薄くなったものの、四月八日頃まで数度の地震があり、数え切れないほどであった。これ以降も度々の地震があり、その回数を以下に左（下）に記す。

四月八日の夜、四月十三日、四月二十七日、四月二十八日――地震の上（後）に入り日（日没）が誠に紅（くれない）のようであったと人々は評した。

Relief measures were provided, it is said. Now, as for the lord of Matsushiro (the Sanada domain), in order to pray for the souls of those who had perished due to homes crushed by the earthquake, or lost to fire or flood, he instructed the domain's principal temple, Chōkokuji, as well as temples of all Buddhist sects throughout the domain, to conduct sutra-reading ceremonies (*dokkyō*) at Saijoyama. Afterward, the priests returned to their respective temples, where they performed *segaki* (hungry ghost) rites and distributed alms (*segyō*) for the deceased among their parishioners, and grave tablets (*tōba*) were bestowed upon them. Even wayfarers (travelers who had perished) were treated the same and received *tōba*. All of this was supported through offerings (*ofuse*) made by the lord to each temple, and at the depth of his benevolence and compassion, the people were moved to tears. Around that time, the magistrates (*bugyō*) who had been dispatched to various locations returned to their posts, and the deputy magistrate (*daikan*) dispatched to Matsumoto conveyed the following message:

"Henceforth, revere your superiors, strive above all in loyalty and filial piety, and devote yourselves in faith to the gods and buddhas" — so it was proclaimed. These were truly grateful words, beyond what could be expressed in speech. At that time, on the fourteenth day of the fourth month, they (the officials) returned to their posts.

Furthermore, following the great earthquake, on that very night there were some sounds of thunder, and the earth shook repeatedly. From the next day onward, the thunder gradually subsided, but until around the eighth day of the fourth month, there were numerous earthquakes too many to count. From this point on, frequent earthquakes continued to occur, and their dates are recorded below on the left:

The night of the eighth day of the fourth month; the thirteenth day of the fourth month; the twenty-seventh day of the fourth month; the twenty-eighth day of the fourth month — after the earthquake, the setting sun was said to be truly crimson in color, and people remarked upon it.
