渾沌未分（たまごのいまだわかれざる）がごとき節（とき）のごとしといふことに大千世界（だいせんせかい）が泥（どろ）の様（やう）な海（うみ）にて
あかして昇清（すみたるはのぼり）降濁（にごりたるはくだり）て上下（じようげ）隔（へだて）り漸（しだい）〻に雲霧（くもきり）のはれゆく様（やう）なりしといふ

**渾沌未だ分かれず 清濁昇降す**
渾沌（こんとん）とはまるで卵がまだ割れていないような状態のことで、大千世界（この広大な宇宙）が泥のような海に満ちていた時のことをいう。やがて、澄んだものは上へ昇り、濁ったものは下へ降りて、上下に隔たりができ、しだいに雲や霧が晴れていくように（天地が）分かれていったと言われている。
**天地開闢 陰陽乾坤**
天地が開けて、まず世界が生まれた。それより陰陽（男女）の道が生じ、男女のことが正しく定まったのである。乾（いぬい／北西）と坤（ひつじさる／南西）は、万物を生み出し、生命を育む根元である。

**Chaos had not yet divided; the pure and impure rose and fell.**
"Chaos" (konton) refers to a state like that of an egg not yet cracked open — a time when the great universe (daisen sekai) was filled with a muddy, sea-like mass. Gradually, what was clear and pure rose upward, while what was turbid and impure sank downward, creating a division between above and below, until, like clouds and mist clearing away, (heaven and earth) came to be separated from one another.
**Heaven and earth were opened; yin and yang, Heaven and Earth (qian and kun) came into being.**
When heaven and earth were opened, the world was first created. From that point, the way of yin and yang (the male and female principles) arose, and the proper order between men and women was established. Qian (乾, the direction of inui/northwest) and Kun (坤, the direction of hitsujisaru/southwest) are the fundamental origins from which all things are born and life is nurtured.
