Humbly submitted petition in writing
Regarding one plot of house ruins owned by Mankoji Temple on the north side of Nakamachi, which was destroyed by fire last June: The temple parishioner representatives gathered to discuss repair funds and other matters, but various goods have become expensive and substantial costs would be incurred. Additionally, given the current situation in the town where land rents and shop rents are rising one after another, we consulted about receiving monthly ground rent for leasing the property. However, the current head priest informed us that this would interfere not only with temple repairs but with all other matters.
Parishioners from Matoba Village and Miroku Village offered to take responsibility for the property, proposing to sell the land for 200 ryō with 10% interest, putting up substantial collateral. However, since this concerns temple property, we repeatedly requested understanding that we would prefer to postpone the sale and instead lease it for ground rent, but they would not listen. Therefore, after consulting at the homes of two parishioners, Miyashita Heibei and Tomiya Iemon, we declined. However, we were told that the town parishioners should take responsibility for construction and other matters. Since many suffered from the fire and this is especially our family temple, we could not take responsibility and had no choice but to make an agreement to sell to the current appointee Kura Iwatarō for 200 ryō, with the money exchange set for August 28th. We were told to affix seals to ensure no discrepancy in the deadline, so we had two witnesses, Kanemon and Tōzō, affix their seals. When we conveyed this to Iwatarō, he brought 200 ryō on the 24th, which we received and held in trust. On the night of the 26th, we held a meeting, drew up the formal contract, and had it sealed by four town representatives and rural parishioners: Shōzaemon and Kihei from Matoba Village, and Mozaemon from Miroku Village. The matter was settled and everyone departed. At that time, the head priest mentioned that through Shōzaemon's mediation, there was also someone willing to donate a storehouse measuring 3×5 ken in addition to the 200 ryō. When asked who the purchaser would be...
