心（こゝろ）をば慎（つゝし）んで。貧乏神（びんぼうかみ）を追払（おひはら）ふべし。元来（もとより）人（ひと）の
心の本体（ほんたい）には。貧（ひん）もなく。欲（よく）もなく。禍（わざはひ）もなく。
悪（あく）もなく。邪（よこしま）もなく。福徳円満（ふくとくゑんまん）。不老不死（ふらうふし）の。

現代語訳
名声を求めて、千年もの間、恥を残し続けるようなことは、打出の小槌で遊女や芸妓を生み出すのと同じことである。どんなに破れた渋団扇であっても、福神が持つ時には、我慢（傲慢）の鬼は外へ去り、団扇の福（幸い）となる。しかしどんな打出の小槌であっても、お前のような心の小さい者が持つ時には、禍をうち出す小槌となってしまう。つまり、渋団扇が貧乏神なのではなく、打出の小槌が福徳なのでもなく、金銀が宝なのでもない。それを用いる人の心にこそ（善悪が）宿るのである。昼夜を問わず、夢の中でも、現実においても、自らの心を慎んで、貧乏神を追い払うべきである。そもそも人の心の本体には、貧しさもなく、欲もなく、禍もなく、悪もなく、邪（よこしま）なこともなく、福徳円満・不老不死の、天より授かった如意宝珠とて、古今変わらず滅することのない、これ以上ない宝がある。この宝を知り、用いる時には、万の宝を打ち出す打出の小槌もここから生まれ、福神もここから生まれ、五倫・五常もここから生まれ、極楽世界もここから生まれる。大不可思議の宝であるから、なかなか容易に——

To seek fame and leave behind a legacy of shame for a thousand years is no different from conjuring courtesans and geisha with the magic mallet of Uchide. Even the most tattered, lacquer-coated fan, when held by the God of Fortune, will drive the demon of arrogance away outside, and become a fan of good fortune and blessing. But even the finest magic mallet of Uchide, when held by a petty and small-minded person such as yourself, becomes a mallet that strikes out only misfortune and calamity. Thus, it is not the lacquered fan itself that is the God of Poverty, nor is the magic mallet itself the source of fortune and virtue, nor is gold and silver itself a treasure. It is in the heart of the person who uses them that all things reside. Night and day, in dreams and in waking life, one must discipline and restrain one's own heart, and drive away the God of Poverty. Originally, in the very essence of the human heart, there is neither poverty, nor greed, nor calamity, nor evil, nor wickedness — there exists a treasure beyond all compare: the Nyoi Hōju (the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel), bestowed from Heaven, endowed with perfect fortune and virtue, and immortality, which has never changed nor perished throughout all ages past and present. When one knows this treasure and makes use of it, the magic mallet that strikes out ten thousand treasures is born from it; the Gods of Fortune are born from it; the Five Human Relationships and the Five Constant Virtues are born from it; and even the Pure Land paradise is born from it.
