Regarding the above, Tōzaemon states that at the request of the hōin (Buddhist priest), he made repayment in rice using kaji-shi rice, so when asked to lend rice, he lent it. Therefore, since this was kaji-shi rice received as fully paid annual tax, without the hōin's consent every year-end, the village headman cannot arbitrarily receive it as fully paid tax, he stated.
