Intelligence Report (Fūsetsu) Item: On the third day of the sixth month of this year, a warship belonging to the Hishū Domain (Hizen Domain) arrived at Miyako Ura. Among those aboard, two individuals — Handa Kuranoske and Nagamatsu Bunroku — came ashore, and on the sixth day of the same month they arrived at the (Morioka) castle town. On the tenth day, Ōi Yōemon, a御給人 (go-kyūnin, a retainer) of Miyako, accompanied them as an escort via express palanquin (hayakago). They arrived at Miyako Ura on the twelfth, and the ship promptly set sail again. On the morning of the thirteenth day, the said warship arrived at Kamaishi Ura. During this period, the Hishū Domain personnel who had been staying in the castle town traveled to Kamaishi Ura every day from the eleventh to the fourteenth, approximately eleven people at a time, and it was arranged that weapons and cargo from the warship would be transported up to the castle town — though the greater part of it was to be forwarded to the Tōno area. However, on the sixteenth day, a domain retainer named Sakamoto Hikozō, along with one other samurai, departed the castle town by express palanquin, and as a result, all the goods that had been in the process of being transported to the Tōno area were sent back to Kamaishi Ura. Furthermore, four individuals (of upper and lower rank) from among the party returned to the castle town, while the rest of the group boarded ship at Kamaishi Ura and, on the seventeenth day, set sail from Kamaishi Ura and proceeded to Hachinohe — or so it has been heard.
