現代語訳
山城・河内・和泉・摂津の国々、若狭・丹波の国々にまで及び、わずかの間に二十二か国において山は崩れ、大地は裂け、死者・負傷者は何十万ともしれぬほどであった。その大地震について詳しく尋ね聞けば、国は尾張の大野郡、一の高峰は白山であるが、二十五日の夕方ごろより山はずっと鳴り響き、震動し続け、次第に激しくなっていった。山のふもとの村々では安心できる心持ちもない折から、二十八日夜明けのころに天地が一度に震動し、どっと吹き出す火炎の光——「あっ」という間もない、なんとおそろしいことよ。
東大谷・西根屋村・細野・長島、その村里は三里四方が平一面に五丈・十丈の湖水となり、家も人馬もみな水底へ落ちて、残らず命を落とした。おおよそ死者の調べの総数は二千七百八十五人。愛知県内で潰れた家はおよそ一万六千余り。名古屋市中の潰れた家の数は二千五百八十八戸。れんが造りの諸施設をはじめ、機械場・織物会社などがばらばらに飛び散る中に、尾張名古屋のお天守閣は瓦一枚の損じもないとは、世にも珍しい、今度の不思議よ。ヤンレヘ。

Inquiring in detail into this great earthquake, the province of Owari's Ōno District, whose highest peak is Mount Haku, had already been rumbling and trembling since the evening of the 25th, growing gradually more intense. The villages at the foot of the mountains had no peace of mind, and then in the early dawn of the 28th, heaven and earth shook all at once — flames and fire burst forth with a roar — before one could even cry out in alarm, how terrifying!

The number of collapsed buildings in the city of Nagoya was 2,588. Brick-built public facilities, machinery plants, and weaving companies were scattered in pieces — and yet, amid all this, the great castle tower of Owari Nagoya suffered not even a single broken roof tile.
