之おく事なり
一 右の塀（へい）をもする事ならぬ人は家（いゑ）の
はなれたる所に五六尺の小｜柱（はしら）を立置（たておき）て
火事の節（せつ）は其柱（そのはしら）をたよりにて廻（まわ）りに道具
をつみてぬれむしろ又はうすべになどをうら
かへしてかけ候｜置（おき）度々（たび〳〵）水をかくれば防（ふせ）き安（やす）
き物也さもなく幾所（いくところ）へもならべ置（おく）は飛（とび）火
懸（かゝ）りて段々（だん〳〵）と皆（みな）火移（うつ）りて焼（やけ）たる事を
数度（すど）見るがゆへに記（しる）し置（おく）なり
一 土蔵（どざう）もなく塀（へい）をかけべき所（ところ）もなき人は縁（ゑん）の
下（した）か庭（には）の内（うち）になりとも春（はる）火事のしげき苦
ばかりも穴（あな）をほりて置（おき）家財（かざい）小道具ともに外（そと）
家（ゑ）の有物をば外家（そとゑ）を取（とり）て内の物ばかりを櫃（ひつ）
の皮籠（かはご）へひしと入すき間（ま）をば米か茶（ちゃ）か綿（わた）にて
つめほそ引（びき）十文字にゆひておき急火（きうか）の時
かの穴へ取入て土（つち）をかけべし若（もし）他（よそ）の蔵（くら）へ頼（たのひ）
現代語訳
えておくことである。
一 右の塀を作ることもできない人は、家の
離れた所に五、六尺の小柱を立てておいて、
火事の時はその柱を頼りにして周りに道具
を積んで、濡れ莚またはうす絹などを裏
返しにしてかけておき、度々水をかければ防ぎやす
いものである。そうでなく幾箇所にも並べ置くと飛び火が
かかって段々と皆火が移って焼けてしまったことを
何度も見てきたので記しておくのである。
一 土蔵もなく塀をかけるべき所もない人は、縁の
下か庭の内でもよいから、春の火事の頻繁な時期
ばかりでも穴を掘っておき、家財・小道具ともに外
家の有る物は外家を取って、内の物ばかりを櫃や
皮籠へしっかりと入れ、隙間は米か茶か綿で
詰めて細引きで十文字に結んでおき、急な火事の時
あの穴へ取り入れて土をかけるべきである。もし他人の蔵へ頼む

1. For those who cannot even build such walls, they should
set up small posts five to six shaku tall in an area away from the house.
During a fire, they can use these posts as support to pile up household goods
around them and cover everything with wet mats or thin silk cloth
turned inside out. By frequently pouring water on them, they become easy to protect.
Without doing this properly, if goods are scattered in many places, flying sparks
will catch them and the fire will gradually spread to burn everything—
I record this because I have witnessed such incidents many times.
1. For those who have neither storehouses nor suitable places to build walls, whether under the eaves
or in the garden, they should dig holes at least during spring when fires are frequent.
For household goods and small tools, if there are items in outbuildings, remove the outbuildings and put only the indoor items tightly into chests and
leather baskets, stuffing gaps with rice, tea, or cotton,
and tie them crosswise with thin rope. During sudden fires,
