事度々聞およびたる事也かねてわかき

一 蚊（か）屋の内（うち）へたはこの火を入べからず若（もし）火を
かやのうちへ入 酒（さけ）に酔（ゑい）かくたひれたる時
ねむりて蚊（か）屋のすそに火の移る事
あるもの也もし火災とならは釣（つり）手を

現代語訳
（前頁より続き）そのような事は度々聞き及んでいることである。かねてより若い人々には言い聞かせ、よく慎むべきことである。
一、蚊帳の内へ煙草の火を持ち込んではならない。もし火を蚊帳の中へ持ち込み、酒に酔っていたり、疲れている時には、眠ってしまって蚊帳の裾に火が移ることがあるものである。もし火災になりそうであれば、釣り手を素早く切り落とし、畳か薄縁（うすべり）を打ち掛けて消すべきである。もし内に病人や老人がいれば、敷物ごと引き出して（安全な場所へ）避難させ、火を防ぐべきである。また、戸や障子に火が付いた場合にも、それを打ち倒し、薄縁の類を打ち掛けて消すべきことである。
隠居屋・道心者寮などや、その他離れた場所に建つ家に住む人は、かねてより拍子木の類、鳴り物を用意しておき、出火・盗人、総じて異変のある時には、それを合図として打ち鳴らし、加勢を受けて防ぐべきである。すべて少しの（火も油断せず…）

1. One must not bring the fire of a tobacco pipe inside a mosquito net (*kaya*). If fire is brought inside the mosquito net when one is drunk on sake or exhausted, one may fall asleep and the fire may spread to the hem of the netting. Should a fire break out in such a case, one should quickly cut down the suspension cord (*tsurute*), and smother the flames by throwing a tatami mat or a thin rush mat (*usuberi*) over it. If there is a sick person or an elderly person inside, one should drag them out together with the bedding and protect them from the fire. Likewise, if fire catches on a sliding door (*to*) or a paper screen (*shōji*), one should knock it over and smother the flames by throwing a thin rush mat or similar item over it.
Those who live in retirement quarters (*inkyo-ya*), quarters for lay Buddhist devotees (*dōshinsha-ryō*), and other buildings set apart from the main residence should prepare wooden clappers (*hyōshigi*) and other noise-making instruments in advance, so that in the event of fire, burglary, or any other emergency, they may strike them as a signal to summon assistance and mount a defense.
