現代語訳
（前頁より続き）たち付け等に用いる。軽くして水・火ともに移らず、値段も安く、殊の外重宝なり。かねてより準備しておくべきことである。
一、土戸（つちど）の代わりに「泥木綿（どろもめん）」とて効果のあるものがある。古木綿三枚を合わせにして、二・三寸おきに横・縦十文字に縫い合わせ、その掛ける場所の寸法より四・五寸余分に見積もり、まわりに細い紐をかがりに付け、四方を釘にてそのかがり糸を掛けてそろうように拵えておき、出火の折には大半切り（おおはんぎり）または桶に水一斗に塩一升・干し土の粉一升の割合に入れてかき混ぜ、右の木綿を浸してから（掛け場所に）掛け、間があれば水を度々内外より掛けるべし。土戸にまさって効果のある物である。普段はたたんでおき、その掛ける場所の合い門を板札に付けておけば、邪魔にもならず、重（次頁へ続く）

(Continued from previous page) — used for *tachitsuke* (protective leggings) and similar garments. Being lightweight and resistant to both water and fire, and inexpensive, it is an exceptionally useful item. One should prepare it in advance.
1. There is an effective substitute for a *tsuchido* (mud-plastered fire door) called *doromomen* (mud cotton). Take three layers of old cotton cloth sewn together, stitching them at intervals of two to three *sun* in a cross-stitch pattern both horizontally and vertically. Cut the cloth four to five *sun* larger than the space it is intended to cover, attach a thin cord around the edges as a loop, and prepare it so that the cord may be hooked evenly onto nails placed at the four corners. When fire breaks out, place the following mixture in a large half-barrel (*ōhangiri*) or a bucket: one *to* of water, one *shō* of salt, and one *shō* of dried powdered earth; stir together, soak the above-mentioned cotton cloth in the mixture, and hang it in place. If time permits, repeatedly pour water over it from both inside and outside. This is superior to a *tsuchido* (conventional mud-plastered fire door). In ordinary times, keep it folded, and if a label board (*itafuda*) is attached to the fitting at the spot where it is to be hung, it will not be in the way, and it is convenient...
