一、火打ち箱に付け木・蝋燭を添えて、人の寝る部屋ごとに置くべきこと。
一、蔵のまわりに薪、その他火が移りやすいものの類を一切置いてはならないこと。
一、蔵の内部を度々見回り、整理・片付けをさせ、戸前（扉口）の練り土【練り土の箇所に虫損あり】も折々（ときどき）点検して、具合よく整えておくべきこと。
一、用水・天水（雨水）を分けて蓄え、特に春の間は蔵の内部にまで二階と下の両方にも水を汲ませておくべきである。日常使う水・手水桶まで、昼夜絶えないようにしておくべきこと。
一、老人・妻子など早く避難すべき人には、着替えの衣裳をその人の身分・体格に相応しく、見苦しくないように重ねて用意しておき、干し飯・氷餅（こおりもち）の類を袋に入れ、被り物（頭を覆うもの）三（次頁へ続く）

**Things to Be Mindful of in Ordinary Times**
1. A tinderbox (*hiuchibako*) should be kept together with *tsukegi* (fire-starting kindling sticks) and candles, and placed in every room where people sleep.
2. Firewood and any other materials that are liable to catch fire must not be stored anywhere around the perimeter of a storehouse (*kura*).
3. The interior of the storehouse should be inspected frequently and kept tidy; the *nerituchi* (kneaded clay plastering) around the door fittings [*note: there is worm damage at this point in the original*] should also be checked from time to time and maintained in good condition.
4. Water for general use and rainwater (*tensui*) should be stored separately. In particular, during spring, water should be drawn and kept inside the storehouse on both the upper and lower floors. Care should be taken to ensure that water for daily use and water in the hand-washing buckets (*chōzu-oke*) never runs dry, day or night.
5. For the elderly, wives, children, and others who should evacuate early, a change of clothing appropriate to each person's station and physique, and not unseemly in appearance, should be prepared and kept stacked and ready.
