（前頁より続き）そえて持って行き、水を汲みかけて火を防ぐのがよい。飛び火を消すのにも、飯椀で水をかければ、思い通りの場所に水が届いて火が消える。まずは火元を防いで消すことが第一である。決して家財道具のことにかかずらって消火が遅れてはならない。火元さえ消えれば、家財はおのずと残るものである。この道理をよく理解して、大切に上手く防いだ時には、人々も感心して助け合い、第一には神明もきっとお助けくださるはずである。
一、火が出た時、風がどの方向（東西南北）から吹くかは定めがたい。風は吹く時々によって変わるものである。その上、火事がいつ起こるとも限らない。それゆえ、風が激しい時には油断なく、空の桶・鍋・釜・据え風呂などにも水を汲み入れておき、その他には家財道具の取りまとめに心がけるべきである。
一、火事が起きたならば、まず帯をしっかり締め、〈割注：帯が緩ければ、気も心も引き締まらないものである〉裳裾を挟み上げ、足袋を履き、〈割注：皮足袋は火に（以下次頁へ続く）〉
