つけて指示をするべきである。そうでなく、ただ「急げよ、早く入れよ」と言えば、出火の際には誰でも心が騒ぎ、浮き足立つものであるから、うろたえて、かえって物事が進まないものである。故に、言葉を静めて指図をするのがよい。さて、着替えの衣装、食物、米、味噌、鍋、茶碗の類、戸、障子をば仕舞うのがよい。火が静まれば早速必要な物である。畳をも早く取れば、物を運ぶのに敷板を踏み抜いて怪我があるだろう。さて、戸障子と畳をば、上へ長いものを縦にして置く方より押し付けて入れるべきである。横に重ねれば三尺より高くは一人では上げにくいものである。もちろん火気の当たるべき方の壁際をば空かして入れる。さて入れ仕舞ってのち、二階と下に窓の数ほど大ろうそくを灯して燭台に立て置いて、土戸を立てれば

If you stack them horizontally, anything higher than three feet becomes difficult for one person to lift. Of course, leave space near the walls where fire might reach. After finishing storing everything, light large candles equal to the number of windows on both the second floor and ground floor, place them on candlestands, and close the earthen doors.
