（前のページより続き）よく指図をしながら命令すべきである。そうせずにただ「急げ」「早く入れろ」と言えば、火事の際には誰でも気が動転して浮き足立つものだから、うろたえてかえって埒が明かないものである。それゆえ、言葉を落ち着かせて指図をするのがよい。さて、着替えの衣類・食べ物・米・味噌・鍋・やかんの類、戸・障子などは最後に入れよ。火が鎮まればすぐに必要な物だからである。畳も早くとれば、物を運ぶ際に板敷きを踏み抜いて怪我をすることもあろう。さて、戸・障子と畳は、上から長いものを縦にして奥の方から押しつけながら入れるとよい。横に重ねると、三尺より高くなると一人では持ち上げにくいものである。もちろん、火の気が当たるであろう方の壁際を空けながら入れよ。さて、入れ終わった後は、二階と下の階に窓の数ほど大きなろうそくを灯して燭台に立て置き、土戸（土塗りの防火扉）を立てれば、
